  The buttons feel solid, HOLD Switch is pretty tight, still get confused and try to use it as a fiio x3

, ofteni do long-press with the Option menu and I end turning it off LOL, or when connected to the computer i try , to eject it by pressing the back/Home button haha like it was the fiio x3
 
The buttons require a solid yet light pressing, not like my ex-NWZ-A818 whose buttins were pretty tight to press and noisy

the hold and volume buttons are just plastic pieces entrapped into the casing they have no reason to ever break, they don't get bent of forced when used. and the activation on the board is done the same way it was on many walkmans before( kind of small metal bubbles that pops back when released). it's a system that has been tested over the years.
and the jack isn't soldered to the board, it's also encased and glued to some slimy thing that allow for minimal movements. the only way to break it is by forcing enough to break the casing ^_^. and that stuff was already on a few previous walkmans(same jack system on my e585). so all in all protect the screen and you should be good for a good time.

yes agree solidly built, super, all te walkmen i have used are like this solid rocks built to last, scratch proof ... my ipod classic... don't ask how it looks in the back side...

A818 was aluminum body, X1060 the touch screen crystal and the back well perhaps plastic or glass but seemed pretty tought i never scratched my x1060 until a jogging accident weher i broke te csreen, back and HP jack, i feel on top of it..
 
my e-507 walkman backside was metal too and front was hard plastic... this one the A17 , feels cold to the touch in the from, back inst, but i see the back side all the certifications and model name Madein Malasya Hecho en Malasia is laser engraved
 
as far i know the inside has a aluminum die cast frame, feels pretty solid, I opened the fiio x3 to see it and surprised me, no frame of any kind, board screwed to the plastic, buttons on the fiio are those membrane layer type with carbon dots or so
 
the hold witch on the fiio is just placed there on a mechanical slider type of switch, i lost the "cap" lol, screen has no protection from the board, unike my a818 which i opened too had an aluminum casing between the LCD and the board, the only sort of protection i saw on the x3 was a poliurethane thingy to protect the battery from DAC heat... IMO useless

UPDATE NO. 2: Library re-creation is pretty fast, even if you delete/add songs to it.
 
I did connect to the pc to delete the albums i listened, and upon disconnecting it said Creating library but this time was lightning fast, i think 5 seconds, instead of 3 minutes
 
to proof it i had 9707 songs, now i have 9614 Thta is not using MTP (Main benefit is database updte on the fly so the device when disconnected doesn't have to recreate the lib), pluggin mine into music bee, forgot to tick the checkbox, "DETECT MTP-ENABLED DEVICES" and it worked normal, appeared under MusicBee's Devices Listing
 
had to select internal storag, then disconnect it, select then sd Card and reconnect, delete songs and ready, both times library was updated like my older walkmans, in a twinkling of an eye

is the eq responds as powerful as the previous sonys ? you will know what i mean if you dealt with an android walkman eq or xperia line walkman's eq ......

+1 For that question too ....if your A-17 is all aluminum front and back ...the black one should be all aluminum too ...
so are you sure that your player is all aluminum front and back ?

The front is aluminum, the back is definitely plastic (that finishes in a very 'aluminum' way no less). All you need to do is to press it again your lip and you can feel the difference. Aluminum is colder to the touch (as it transfers heat better) while plastic isn't.

I find it so more powerful response, sadly the same old 5-band EQ so the lowest is 400Hz.. bad bad bad. i cannot tame the XBA-H3 midbass, perhaps arround 200Hz and 80Hz really dont' know. Fortunately I never had an android walkman... is like having an xperia without the phone

Yours and mine is Back-face.. plastic, front-face some sort of an alloy, not because yours is silver that menas is all alumnum

 
 
I read from sony the inside of all A10's they have an aluminum die cast frame... I was refering the all-plastic to the fiio X3

Bought a dozen or so Xperia SP screen protectors and cut one to fit the A17 the second I opened it.

Just for sharing about the sound comparison between Sony A17 vs iBasso DX50, overall I found one very obvious different is their sound stage.
A17 has very much larger sound stage (more 3D) than DX50 (no external amp).
After using the external amp with DX50, it improves the sound stage but still not as big as A17.
I would say A17 is a very good sounding player.

How many hours do you have with it? i am running it new , still like 11h 8m and as i can say even before it does reach sony's recommendation of "burn-in" of 100h it has a wider soundstage than my fiio x3 ( same league as iBasso DX50) and yay still the full bars of the battery are shown, despite i have played on it 3 Hi-res albums 24 bit 88.2 or 96KHz.
 
Later i'll try my new Vinyl rip i got somewhere else on the internet, Vivaldi the 4 seasons in 24/192
