There's a lot more that happens in a Digital audio player that affects the final sound quality and all these are adjustable/managed by the hardware and software design engineers:

File buffering and cache management / Latency control / Data streaming
/ Decoding by the software music player and operating system

DSP / Upsampling algorthims

Digital volume control precision (16bit / 24bit / 32bit / 48bit / 64 bit )

Electrical, Magnetic and Radio noise management and shielding

Power supply current and noise management

Master Clock Oscillator design

Various types of Digital to analog conversion process:
1 bit Delta Sigma Noise shaping
Multi-Bit Delta Sigma Noise shaping
R2R ladder

Digital or Analog low pass filtering/reconstruction design

Analog output amplifer circuitry and analog volume pot design(if any). Balanced output topology and grounding

Is changing the homescreen wallpaper simply a matter of replacing the default_wallpaper.png with a new (properly sized) .png image and re-booting? (for someone who has disabled everything under sonywalkmanuser's Tweak Guide)

Interesting discuss everyone. I still very much enjoy the ZX507 but about a month back I replaced the original balanced OFC wires from an audio board to a 4.4 mm jack to Mundolf silver/gold wires. I also replaced the wires from the battery terminals to the audio board and the wires going to the super capacitor. I went with the Blue Dragon instead of silver/gold wires to the battery terminals due to flexibility. I can confidently say that my modified ZX507 has surpassed my WM1A and sitting at the same level as a stock WM1Z if not very slightly below that . If anyone is handy with soldering, please give this a try. I am sure that u will be super happy with the result.

Hi there, thank you for sharing. I am very interested in this mod. Would you mind giving some more details of the wires and solder you used? Can you also give me a hint on how to open up the casing? I noticed there are different diameters of this Mundorf wire, including 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 1.0mm and 1.5mm. Which one would you recommend? Also, did you remove the solder and reapplied or did you just keep the solder there?

Edit: I found out they were 24awg /0.5mm wires in your reply to a forum member

Edit 2: I figured out everything. Just wonder did you mod the WM1Z and WM1A and so you compared the modded ZX507 with the stock WM1A and 1Z?

Edit 3: Actually I can't find a way to remove the metal plate without damaging my device. Can you please advise how does the plate lock in position? I removed the 4 screws and it still sat firmly there.....

Received my case made by Dignis; color: cognac

Very snug. Fit & finish is top notch. I've had previous experience with Dignis years ago with an AK100 DAP.

Is anyone familiar with the app, Quickstep? I so far only found that it is a default Android launcher....

My 507 had been turned off for almost an hour. I powered on, and was stuck in a "Device is starting" loop. I have tried to force stop it, but it won't stop givieng me the aforementioned message. I'm a Mac user, and was still able to take screenshots and use Android File Transfer to pull them from the 507 onto my Mac, see attached. **** Guessing I'll need to research how to wipe this device and re-load the firmware fresh?****

I use FB messenger (chat to myself) to quickly transfer photos and other files between devices.

Damn...o.k, if anyone is willing to provide some guidance, it'd be much appreciated. I have zero experience with Android. I am stuck. Every couple minutes, I get that screen advising "Quickstep keeps stopping", giving me the options of "App info" or ""Close App". Force closing the app does nothing.

I can't get to my "normal" desktop/homescreen. It's the funky-looking homescreen in the SS above.

I am a Mac user but have access to a Windows machine if needs-be. At this point, I'm totally cool with wiping this device and re-flashing firmware....assuming that is possible.

My homescreen currently looks like this; I can't swipe in any direction.

O.K., for anyone caring enough to follow along, I was able to get into settings. Doing a full factory re-set right now.
did u turn on wifi?
maybe that app tried to download google-android services/apps as 1st time setup?

I was able to do a factory reset. While I was in that loop, only limited screen presses were accepted. It took me a bit to realize I could try swiping down from the status bar to access Settings app. Once I did that, it was only a couple minutes until I was reset.

Not at all sure why it freaked-out like that. I followed the Tweak Guide to shut off a bunch of apps/services, but no one else has reported such an issue.

Anyway, I think I'll just run with factory settings for a bit and accept a hit on the battery life for now.

There's a sense of zen and ease when listening to the ZX507(fw 2.01) on the IER-M9 hybrid tips, balanced 4.4mm with direct source on, high gain vol 60.

Spacious and airy three dimensional soundstage makes for a Fatigue-free listening experience.

Music has perfect balance in it's holographic-ness, clarity, tonality, dynamics and treble refinement.

Every element in the music is well spaced out. Drums, cymbals and vocals don't mix in. You hear/identify the cymbals, drums, main singer, backup singer as individually spaced out elements in the music at the same time. The imaging is impeccably good to the point where you don't even feel that you are listening to a stereo iem, it feels like 360 audio.

Hope this helps for those who are thinking of getting this Walkman and finding a good iem to pair with it.

I had the same problem when I disabled a certain app, factory re-set fixed it. I didn't notice much of a battery difference when disabling the apps, the biggest battery hit is wifi and google trying to update all your apps all the time which I turned off.

I'm just glad I could open Settings app to do the factory reset.

When I was in that weird starting up "loop" (can't come up with a better term), the device would accept only certain screen touches; e.g., it wouldn't recognize swipes in any direction., except for swiping down from the status bar which ultimately allowed me to get into Settings. It took me a while to even remember to try that. Not sure what I would've done if I couldn't do it that way. Google wasn't much help in terms of finding out if I could've re-flashed this device.
