Sony NW-ZX300

And I just told you I get more mids presence and a more balanced signature from a Fiio A5. Trust me, I was not pleased nor did I listen to the ZX300 with the IER-Z1R for 15 minutes.

Going from my zx300 to my Massdrop thx 789 amp, which is a powerhouse doesn't produce the sound difference you're describing in anything I've ever heard, and I've been through a lot of gear .

What headphone? I take it you don't have the IER-Z1R? I went from an iPod to the ZX300 with an HD650 single-ended and got significantly worse sound.

We're talking about a Sony iem not sounding right on a SONY dap.

There's no way it can't make a pair of iems made by the same company to sound less than great.

The same no way some people claim that the WM1Z doesn't drive the IER-Z1R well enough. We're of one mind on one aspect of this for sure.

Are you listening to the IER-Z1R from the balanced output? The Single Ended output is rather weak on Sony's DAP.

Neither the ZX300 SE, nor the iPod (any existing model), can efficiently drive the HD650, its going to sound like crap either way, you have to drive the HD650 from the Balanced outpout on the ZX300 (or any Sony DAP really). I can say though that the ZX300 on balanced outpout does (albeit barely, at least enough to be good sounding) have enough power to drive the HD650, because of the way it scales however, the HD660S or the HD58X might be a better option with Sony DAPs (not that the HD650 sound bad with those, but you still aren't listening to this pair at its full potential when using Sony's underpowered DAP.)

P.S. iPod AMPs actually output much less power than the ZX300's SE, they are also a disgrace considering the below average (read poor) sound quality they have, at least for a device that's labeled as a dedicated digital audio player.

Zmf Eikon (300ohms), hd6xx (300ohms) both sounded surprisingly good from the balanced output of the zx300.

I've also owned: Etymotic ER4XR, DUNU d2002, dk3001, Andromeda S, Solaris, JH Angie, 64 audio u12t, qdc Anole VX, Rhapsodio Solar

They all sound fantastic out of the zx300. Most people seem to just run iems from phones, which is also sufficient.

Kitechaser backed down when you asserted in the Solaris thread that the ZX300 sounded the same as the WM1A with that iem on account of how easily driven the Solaris is. The IER-Z1R is different. You and I have very different notions of fantastic. Perhaps in the future others will weigh in on how fantastically the IER-Z1R sounds through the ZX300 without EQ. At the moment I'm persuaded enough to take my money elsewhere.

Is there any info/rumors on the successor for the ZX300? Will there be one?
I don't think we have any kind of info yet, but if a successor releases this year, it better be real good as competition has been getting quite stiff within the past 6 months or so.

A bit unrelated and definitely not within the same league as the ZX300, but as I made that post Astell and Kern announced their successor to the KANN. IMG_20190426_004915.jpg img_2931-100794665-orig.jpg
Literally an absolute unit. Just look at that thing.

Yes I saw this beast, but was disappointed with the 5pin xlr. was really expecting a 4.4 balanced TBH....

Quick question : If i use a easy to driven iem (like the DM6 which i'm using), is there will be any differences between SE and 4.4 Bal given the same volume level? Because many claims are telling that the 4.4 will sound significantly better and i don't want to reconfigure all my stuff to 4.4 terminated :frowning2:

P/S : Is there anyone using DM6 with ZX300 here :D

Generally the signal path design on the ZX300 is a lot better on the 4.4 output vs the 3.5, so yes most people notice improvements to the sound beyond just the added power level. It's the 4.4 that compares closer to the high end Sony DAPs, whereas the 3.5 on the high end ones tends to be rated a lot better when compared to the ZX300.

I've not heard the DM6 but all my listening tends to be on easy to drive IEMs and going from the 3.5->4.4 (especially after burn in) sounds like a DAP upgrade.

So now all my non-balance terminated phone will be useless... idk why they must design the DAP like that

Yeah, IMO 4.4 is the best type of balanced output but for now 2.5 is still the standard so we'll just have to live with that :worried:
