Sony NW-ZX300

Maybe they were trying to save costs on licensing to offer an even better price on the 300A? As long as they didn't hold back any sound file formats, once you know about the formatting restrictions, I don't find it a big deal. Frustrating until you find out though, for sure.
Not really, the MSRP of the 300A is about $480, it's just joybuy that's offering it at a bargain price like they did with a bunch of other stuff - the cayin n5 mk2 for $270, the hifiman supermini for $160, the colorfly c10 for $140 and so on.

Just received this player...overall really impressed bar 2 small niggles...it takes forever to create the database and seems really picky about micro sd's...accepts one of my samsungs but not the other!
Just format the SD-Card with the player itself and it should work without any problem
Has anyone tried USB Audio out?

I read I need the WMC-NWH10 cable, but I've also read that DSD over it doesn't work. Is the USB Audio out class 1 or 2?

WM Port pinout: https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SonyWMPort
DSD Out over USB works without a problem, just make sure the DAC connected supports DoP and its enabled on the player.

What's the difference in function between these? I'm assuming the one that's just a nub (NWM10) is for charging only, and the 'cable' (NWH10) is the USB line-out. Yes?

I have the WMP-NWM10 and it certain works for charging and data connection to PC, I'm guessing USB DAC for a PC should also be fine but not played about with adding external USB DAC to the Sony.

Hello.Long time stalker of the forums but my Love at First Sight for the ZX300 made me sign up.
Upgrading from the FiiO X3ii,I ordered the ZX300 64GB from AccessoryJack.com. Great service and it reached me in 7 days.
Compared to the X3ii I can just hear much more detail with the my U.E TFi10.
Recently I got the Noble Audio EDC Velvet as I always found the U.E a bit of a hassle due to the over ear design. But now I have the perfect Portable System for my Music Needs.
Haven't used the ZX300 as a USB DAC yet.

Battery test so far, started at 11:30 PM last night EST with volume at 70 and oriveti new primus in balanced out. A mix of mostly flac some hi res and DSD, on shuffle no screen use. Time of picture is 9:00 AM EST, 9 and 1 half hours later and only 1 battery indicator gone.

Impressive! Of course this is with no screen usage ( ok very minimal ) and no sound effects on. I don't use sound effects or dsp, and I only use the screen to find what I'm going to play, so maybe that's why I get great battery life? I will keep you posted and let you know when the charge indicator comes on.

Oh and I have mine set at 90% charge also.

Edit : 13 and a half hours and the battery bar is down 2 segments.

Edit #2: 18 and a half hours, it's 5 pm here and I'm on my last bar, but player is still going strong. Also I have high gain enabled also.

Edit#3: 21 and a half hours and still going on 1 bar.

Edit final: well the low power indicator started flashing about 5 minutes ago- 9:30 PM EST ( and I continued listening while I typed this ) but I'm tired and seemed a good time to conclude the test. So that gives 22 hours of playtime on balanced out with mostly flac files and volume at 70 with a 90% charge. I'd say Sony's numbers are pretty spot on. Considering only 90% charge and hi gain balanced out with hi bit rate files.

Pic below, you can't see the battery indicator because it was blinking  And yes I had just turned the volume down to 65 because I was listening to Floyd and 70 is too loud!

Welcome to the club :) I have fond memories of my fiio x3ii, that was a nice solid good sounding little dap. The ZX300 is a different beast though.

I don’t own the player but i plan to.
What would be the best portable headphones for it?
Balanced or not, nevermind the price, let's say max 1000 euro but only if it's really worth the sound quality of course. I like musical sound, not analytical. If it matters, at home i use beyer dt880 and audeze lcd2 and on the go, sony 1000x which has excelent noise cancellation but the sound is not musical enough on the sony, still good but there is something missing. Maybe i ask too much of it after listening to beyer and audeze.
How is sony xba-n3? Other choice might be b&w p7. So iem or over ear, not on ear.
I would prefer some mainstream brands as there are not many choices in Romania.
Also for the record, i own fiio x5iii, did anyone compare zx300 with it? Is it worth the switch? Should be but...
Thanks.

DSD Out over USB works without a problem, just make sure the DAC connected supports DoP and its enabled on the player.

Thanks, does the zx300 convert to PCM or Native stream it over USB?
The DAC (HA-DSP) doesn't say anything about DoP just:
USB audio from PC/Mac, up to 192 kHz PCM and DSD64/128 (DSD256 coming up)
USB audio from select Android devices (PCM up to 96 kHz)

But reading this http://dsd-guide.com/dop-open-standard makes me think even if it does DoP, then it would struggle with DSD@2.8MHz.

I also have a miniDSP 2x4 HD connected to a Tube Amp + Sub which has USB input (no DSD support)
XMOS asynchronous USB audio up to 192 kHz, USB Audio Class 2 compliant  ASIO drivers for Windows

I was just wondering if buying the $50+P&P Sony cable is worth the effort, or just stick with analog.
With analog I need to connect the zx300 to a preamp > miniDSP > Tube + Amp.
With digital I can connect directly to the miniDSP.

A simple preamp is much more than the cable.

The DSD is more curiosity as I don't have many DSD files.

Thanks all.
