unless regular is 2.5 and balanced is 3.5, haha, I doubt it, but just imagine the mess if that was the case!Yeah, just what we all needed another giant plug, with a new standard for balanced, from one extreme, to the other. At least it's not the fragile tiny 2.5mm plug.

if this is ZX3 (and this is a HUGE if)
maybe
the big one will be for full phones (i think the adaptors for them are that kind of size?)
the small one will be for (c)iems , just like zx2 to be used on se/balanced , depending on the cable termination ?
just a guess
and even if we get the specs/price on spetember 1st, until some people hear it this whole conversation is kinda pointless , right ?

Ok I went nuts for the past 30min trying to dig this back. Google kept drowning me under the friggin Apple lightning news.
Remember 4 months ago a new push for balanced standard from JEITA.

I feel this is the Hi-Res 2nd wave push from Sony

Quick question folks, does the output on the ZX2 need a special TRRS jack?
I tried hooking it up to my Ray Samuels balanced amp and I only get audio out of the left ear unless I partly remove the TRRS jack.

very possible.
A Mini-XLR will have been a wiser choice, like RHA will use on it's new DAC/AMP. This will have avoided a NEW standard !

So, if it is 4.4mm TRRS...where in the hell can I buy the plug for DIY cables. I mean, we just have to stick to Sony again, right ? Because there is 0 anything that use 4.4mm as far as I know

It is a standard trrs jack but you need to have it wired the correct way for both ends

The more I look at the gold Walkman, the more I think it is better than AK Copper....but I would never spend 3 grands on anything like that ...

Going a new standard (if it is the case) may be a bad short term decision; however, if the movers and shakers in the industry are really determined to make such a new standard happen, and I have no idea one way or the other, then for Sony in the mid to long term it is a great idea. To work we would of course have to see more headphones being made for balanced and having this termination as an option. It wouldn't seem to be a good move if the adaptation of the standard could only reasonably rely on people having custom work done. Seems like that would make for a very small customer base, but who knows, maybe that is part of their business logic?
To be clear so I don't get scolded again, I'm not saying I know there is a new standard, simply having fun with a little rampant speculation.

Hmm, that's rather confusing then as it works fine with my other set up.
I have an AK120 (Mezzo mod) and I go from TRRS on the AK to Kobiconn on my F-35 Lightning amp. If I connect the same TRRS connector to my ZX2 the issues begin
Am I missing something silly here?

Zx2 did a strange something with regular 3.5mm TRRS , did it not ? Many people is still trying to seek out for TRRS cables here and there....imagine the so called "new standard"
