SONY NW-ZX2

Interesting you found it struggling to drive the EL-8. I wouldn't want to run the LCD-3 on a "single ended" connection with the PHA-3 but in balanced mode there was more than enough oomph there.

B/c the EL-8 was a loaner so I was not able to tested in the balanced.  The key is that the iFi microDSD simply a better match for orthos.  For easy and moderately hard to drive phones, the PHA-3 is clearly superior.

I don't own the ZX2, but on my ZX1, I disabled a lot of the built in Google apps that weren't being used, but were taking up CPU cycles as they ran in the background.  This made a noticeable difference on my ZX1 responsiveness and even improved battery life.  I find the UI speed to be just a tad slower than my iPhone 5S, which is plenty fast enough for me just listening to music and such.  I don't use my ZX1 for much else.

Exactly what I do on my ZX-1 too. I bought it to listen to music, not even to look at album art.

Does anyone know if the ZX2 can stream FLAC, DSD or Hi Res files to a non LDAC BT speaker without any problem, I know that Mp3 are ok, just not too sure about Hi Res due to high bit rate and file size.

After only being here for a short time, I see that soundblast75 has bought and sold most daps that are available today

You could probably say that if soundblast75 settles for one dap then that is the one to absolutely buy!

Anyone got a link to some good TRRS terminated cables for Westone W40's, I understand they are the same as the Shure connections at the ear.

Remember, you can also search for Hifiman balanced cables - they use the same 3.5TRRS termination and I had a Moon Audio Hifiman cable that works with the ZX2.

And the Westone/Shure connectors are called MMCX.  Sony`s now CIEMs use them, as well as many other makers like Fidue, JVC, etc.

Wondering how nerfed the EU version of this player is...

This player looks very tempting.  Reading a lot of the impressions seems that this would make a really good combination with my K10's.  I have always enjoyed the Sony house sound from their original Walkman from years ago.

Looking at other DAP's, it seems they always fall short somewhere.  The ZX2 looks to tick a lot of boxes (especially in battery life and UI) so I think I need to do some more research before I pull the trigger.
