I would bring the Z1 to the office if I had one, except that I can't really stay with headphones on for too much due to the work I'm doing.
I wouldn’t! Simply because of office noise, which will perfectly spoil the nuances and subtleties of DMP sound reproduction. My office rig is WM1Z + Apple AirPod Max (in noise canceling mode)I would bring the Z1 to the office if I had one, except that I can't really stay with headphones on for too much due to the work I'm doing.
Are you using 3,5mm? That is very important. The ZX507 only uses its FTCAP when using 4.4mmEvery few years I check back here for mr. Leylandi to drop the new Sony Walkman. X, Z1000, ZX1, ZX2, ZX507. I couldn't stomach the WM1Z - but listening A/B between the ZX2 and the ZX507, and being disappointed with the latter every time I use it - I'm pretty sure to be taking the hit this time and shell out for the WM1Z2. The ZX2 has a thickness and warmth, combined with a nice, nuanced presence of mids and vocals. The ZX507 is supposedly better in every way.. but I've never "felt" that player. And if I'm not happy with the player and leave it in the drawer, it's pointless anyway. Even if it's a better deal on paper.
I've tried using the 4.4 mm and while it was a bit better, it still wasn't as good as my ZX2. You're right, I will be looking at the WM1 models. the Z is probably not 3x as good as the A - in this economy I might need to be realistic. But it's gonna be one of those two.Are you using 3,5mm? But the ZX507 is not supposed to be better, the ZX2 is better.
The ZX507 is the successor of the ZX300 which is the successor is the ZX100 which is a stripped down/cheaper version of the ZX2.
The WM1 is the successor of the ZX2, only an WM1 can replace it.
Get the 1A and install MrWalkman One Custom Firmware and use the 1Z tuning to get close to the 1Z sound.I've tried using the 4.4 mm and while it was a bit better, it still wasn't as good as my ZX2. Interesting, thanks. The M2 models will most likely not get a custom firmware, right? Because they're Android.Get the 1A and install MrWalkman One Custom Firmware and use the 1Z tuning to get close to the 1Z sound.

The quality level of New Gold is above 2000 & 2000T (in terms of soundstage/analytics/density. etc). There sound signature are different. 2000T provides a mild "tube sound" which gives a warm/soft/airy/vocal-oriented feeling. New Gold's sound is more neutral, solid & balanced, which is quite a different thing in contrast to 2000T. For quality, New Gold absolutely prevails, way above.
