Yeah it sounds musical, detailed, clear, lush, dynamic and balanced.. Suspiciously good. I like, actually have a hard time believing what I’m hearing. I’m using project Z tuning on plus mode 2, region J!

Yes, the 1A/Z firmware doesn't have support for line out, unfortunately.

You could always try the direct 3.5 output as amping is done differently on these players.

It's ok like this. I'm a fan of earbuds. It handles very well without the help of an Amp

Really, owners of the Sony A55 should try out the latest Midnight v2 by @MrWalkman .

It's like having an altogether different DAP.

What features are you thinking about?

You can certainly install the new firmware. The features on the "Missing" list will just not be available, but you'll get awesome sound quality instead, plus some new features like USB DAC or BT Receiver.

Just did it to my A55. It sounds SO good! Everything became elevated, with much more detail n space.

What exactly does direct source do om a55 in custom firmware? If all it does is defeat all DSP then way is it louder? Is this considered to be the best setting among most users?

Did anyone find d 'hold' but not working anymore after installing d firmware? When I click d button, the words 'hold' appears on d screen but all d buttons still usable.

Work around for me is just turning off d screen.

Yes direct source bypasses all dsp. It is quite common that enabling eq will lower the volume by as many dB as the max eq level to avoid clipping
