Yeah, they do the piano very good, specially my modded pair, which give a more natural tone to it...

I'd like to listen to the piano music with my SA5000!
I always use tube amp while using this one.
Tube amps help this one with warm.

The OP mentions that the soundstage is small and disappointing with these. Would that make them not such a great choice for movies and gaming? Would a headphone like, say, the ATH AD700 be better suited for that?

For me I have bigger requirements for soundstaging for gaming, movies then music so I would expect so. I just got shipping confirmation on mine so will see soon enough.

If Ed 8 had equal soundstaging to the Pro 900 they would compete much better for movies, gaming that´s for sure to pick an example. Quite good one because the soundstage is similar just the size that differs mainly.

I'll be curios to hear your findings. I have been pondering these for a long long time, but I listen to mostly rock and these don't seem to be the best for that kind of music. While I do watch my share of movies and playing games on the weekends, I have been hesitant on putting out 4 bills for this purpose alone. Up to now my D2000 have served the purpose very nicely. Picking up every last detail would be nice though. The D2000 do a very nice job, but I'm sure there are some headphones out there that will pull out more detail.

SA3000 for half the price? Almost sorry I didn´t went for those myself but then I would always wonder about the SA5000 if I liked them. SA5000 has leather pads and the SA3000 velour? So that also a plus for the SA3000 in term of comfort.

I get mine in the past for $99 +shipping used in Amazon. The SA3000 pads sonically are as a Mix of faux leather with Velour. Physically, they are a mix of faux leather (turning to rubber; in his interior) with some type of fabric material in cushions.
The SA5000 have leather, because it is more favorable sonically (these drivers have a hot treble whether...).
They are airy but with a very little of warmness (the SA5000)...

That was the reason I got them... Supposed to roleplay as my trebly headphone and hopefully even beat my Ultrasones as PRaT monsters. They are often suggested to be even faster after all

Seems it will take a while longer... Can you sue volcanoes?

I hate velours, dual ended and bassy phones...I want a sa3k w/ sa5k pads

I've ordered the sa5k pads anyway, but I often read that the sa3k/5k SS is ridiculous...I'm not afraid to mod a sa3k to hell, though

and they share the same drivers SONY part, so they won't be the bottleneck....ah well, if I ever find a good priced second hand sa3k I'll give it a shot

or possibly put those T50p beyer drivers in a sa1k using sa5k ear pads...prolly a much better idea

s2audio put some cd3k drivers in a sa1k, and its current owner tells me that they sound pretty good.

It's actually comical that they listed Natural Disaster in the shipping notes! Man. Are you somewhere overseas? that sucks. I hope they get to you soon. I am seriously debating getting a pair, but gonna wait and see what you come up with as far as the gaming and movies.

Yes thought it was quite funny

It has to cross the atlantic ocean. Just got a "departure scan" so maybe the flight got cleared. If it´s by boat it will take at least 3 weeks I estimate.

Not sure.. Someone who I trust... Chris.. The long thread in regards to speed metal.. Very lengthy.. He seems to think the 900's are faster then the SA5000. He compared A lot of fast headphones & broke them down.. The Omegas were tops I believe.. The SA5000 are still silly fast, even though I feel were DT48 are a bit faster.. Smearing is a afterthought with those headphones.
