Awesome comparison, very good information and details. I was wondering about the 10R being better than the 1R. The pictures suggested a lower end model to me (fixed cables vs removable cables for starters). I wasn't thinking to buy the 10R and your observations just confirm my initial hunch.

For people who do not own the 1R and may not be able to afford it, do you think the 10R is similar enough to meet their desires?

yo, you can find the MDR-1Rs at $194 at amazon and I've seen em go as low as $188 (you just have to be patient - I think they were at costcentral), which is basically the same price point as the 10r I believe.

Supported CodecsSBC*4 , AAC*5, aptX

seems top be supporting aptx

Which is a good thing considering the 10R(lower-end model) has AptX.

oh great.... i just bought a mdr-1rbt for a nice price... was hoping that the aptx was the only change... seems the case so i'm happy (i don't have any aptx enabled devices so it would have been wasted money)...

now if only i knew how to enable aac on the pc.

Have just ordered myself MDR-1RMK2 headphones from Japan as a Christmas present along with a Sony Xperia Z 32GB tablet.  I will have to wait for the headphones until late December to early January.  Too long.

We need to find out if the driver has been changed.
Nothing will help if driver is not updated..
