SONY IER-Z1R

The advantages of the M9 over the Z1R are it’s balanced tuning (and therefore more prominent midrange), smaller size/fit, and lower price. It’s imaging is also really precise, but the Z1R images well too. It’s treble is well tuned and might be easier to listen to for those that find the Z1R treble too intense/harsh. Some may also prefer the speed of the BA bass, although it’s fairly slow for a BA (the 64 Audio u12t has much faster bass and excellent quality for a BA) but the Z1R’s dynamic bass is virtually unbeatable in texture and natural decay.

They’re both great IEM’s but they’re pretty different, so I guess it all depends on which one is going to suit your music taste. If I had to choose one, it would definitely be the Z1R :)

How do you rank Z1R versus other flagship IEMs at the moment : Luna, A8000, Legend X, Anole X, and other more expensive IEMs. I just mentioned few only. The question is, what IEM at the moment is the very best? For the best sound.
Only interested in universal not CIEM.

I have both the Legend X and IER-Z1R. It really depends what genres you'll be using them for; I wouldn't say one is better than the other. For EDM I prefer the Legend X because of the sheer amount of bass they put out, but technicalities are also very good on them. For everything else I listen to I prefer the IER-Z1R. They're more lively and natural sounding, and have better treble extension.

Edit: don’t laugh at my old-man ear hairs, lol.

This adjustment of yours helped! Thanks! I think I got the a good idea to ask, what set of closed signs do you guys think is comparable with the IER-Z1R for the kids, bass, highs, tonality wise? I think the MDR-Z1R and Z7M2 go more deeper than necessary and the Audio-Technica WP900 and ATH-AP2000Ti are on the complete opposite end of the stratosphere. Not enough bass but wonderful Treble mids. I just need more of a movie or concert with solid bass presence. The MDR-Z1R is about the most bass that would suit me fine. More than that, headache prolly

I am the opposite, after using the Z1R for a while today, going back to the M7 as there something about them. I enjoy the sound profile and bass better for longer listening sessions. I enjoy the Z1R but it more like lollies, I enjoy them but cant live off them forever. I do find the Z1R fatiguing whereby its a fit issue or something else not sure yet. Just in general I would probably recommend the M7 or M9 they are a safer recommendation not only in sound profile but also fit, comfort and price.

In the end I think im just one of those people, kind of explains why I like Sennheisers as well.

I used to think my ears were not spacious enough let them fully nestle in like that, but after adjustment I found that they can. Though in my case the edge of the casing can cause a bit of discomfort. I find that it's not necessary to jam all the way in to get both optimal seal and comfort. Still, even when I don't feel discomfort they tend to leave a pressure point on my ear every time.

Hi guys, I'm considering getting these and had a few preliminary questions: What difference am I going to notice listening to these compared the Shure SE846's? I'll be listening to them out of the Sony TA-Zh1es. Also, any recommendations for an upgraded, and longer cable? The one supplied is going to be too short for me. Thanks.

Closed cans are a no go? Too much sweat from using the Z7M2?

Be aware that removing any other cable than the stock cable is hell due to the design of the female connector on the buds

Yeh, you know, I often think, the Z7M2 was one of the best phones I tried in my journey here. I often consider repurchasing them, but then remember the heat. My ears never got to the point where they sweated, but the heat build up would lead me to need to take them off after only 20-30 minutes. My path so far has been Shure SRH1840 - Sony Z7M2 - Focal Clear - HD660S. The Clear also had great sound, better than the 660S I thought, but they're too uncomfortable. Too big, bulky, and weighted in a way that just didn't feel right. And ear cups were too small for me. And the TA doesn't fully power them. I ordered the HD800S yesterday, but am now going to try and cancel as I'm anticipating that they're not going to be powered sufficiently by the TA either.
