SONY IER-Z1R

Anyone interested in seeing some tip roll measurements? As expected, the wide bore JVC Spiral Dots -- which do fit on the Z1R, btw -- increased treble about 2 dB, but only at 6K. Surprisingly, the Triple Comfort tips mirrored the Spiral Dots in that 6K bump.

[Deleting measurement graph as there seems to be something wrong. Don't want to spread any misinfo. Sorry guys, just got my rig and am ironing out some kinks.]

Thanks for posting. How reliable are these measurements? Were they highly reproduceable? To me it felt like there was a louder difference between the Spiral Dots and the Sony silicon, but obviously my impression is quite subjective.

Also, how far into the treble area is your measurement correct. I heard there isn't a lot of commercially available equipment capable of measuring above 10 kHz and that massive dip from 6 to 8 kHz doesn't seem right.

Totally disagree on tip bore size. For me it was exactly the opposite experience: started with the Spiral Dots and thought the upper mids and highs were out of control, then switched to the Final E and the stock silicon and everything fell nicely into place. Different people with different ears I guess. It might also be an age thing... I'm still somewhat on the young side (36) and it's a well known fact that with age we lose the ability to hear the higher end of the frequency spectrum.

For sure on certain tips working for some and not others! It's a YMMV thing no question. I guess I should've qualified my post with that of course....

I'm using REW>ADI-2 DAC>IER-Z1R>IEC 711 Coupler>UMIK-1>REW for measurements. Yeah, I agree that the big dip doesn't look right. Let me run some more sweeps and see what comes up.

I have nothing approaching religious experiences with either despite the tithes.

You can clearly see the space between the tips and iems here.

...****. I guess while I wait for a buyer I could try these. Can you post a picture of how they fit?

Here are a couple shots of how the tip fits on the Z1R.

Using wide open JVC Spiral Dot tips vocals are thin and sharp, more thin than sharp on other songs. Not exactly joyous. There is an unpleasant high bite in general that will probably do more harm than good, though elsewhere I could get used to it for no compelling reason. As far as the file quality goes those Russians may as well have just changed some text fields or converted the youtube video to flac, but just for show lest I get called a philistine. Soundstage is kind of a mess, bass is good. The therapy people are right to some extent- you need to be a happy person to continue to be happy after dropping three grand on iems and daps. My therapist back in the day cost more but got me my college diploma, this so-called hobby might make me reconsider my whole life. If an audiophile hasn't yet retreated to a mountain forsaking everything material I'd be mildly surprised. Tell you what though, for $300 as opposed to $3000 I might not complain. Questions? On the plus side, much better ASMR experience than the HD650 and Magni.

Triple comforts > JVC Spiral Dots with these iems. Something comes off more unnatural with the Spiral Dots. My earlier impression was that they sounded wonky and didn't really fit the IER-Z1R given the space inside hence my concern regarding fit. Joy can be found with the triple comforts, but it's all about value and what you're willing to tolerate. I'll go back to listening while I wait.

Bass is good. Maybe I'll start experimenting with EQ some, though the geniuses at iBasso figured out how to affect completely unrelated parts of the sound and none of the figurines in their threads like talking about negative things, unless something new supersedes the older thing and then all of a sudden turns out there were deficiencies.

Surprisingly present voice, though I'm not exactly being careful with the volume.

Just got in a pair 2nd hand today, and am getting used to it. First listen with stock tips I thought "yup, the mids are terribly recessed with no tone/character", and I was more than a bit sour. But popped on the same UE900 single flange silicone tips I've been using on the Anole VX, and everything in the mids and highs opened up. Which leads me to believe this IEM really begs for a tip with very wide opening (which the UE900 ones have). I think the stock tips choke the mids, taking away the body, and imparting a nasty chalky empty tone. Will do more tip experimenting this evening.

Hey nice first impressions. Would love to hear more comparisons with the vx. I find the vx extremely resolving and clear especially for vocals and is quite tempted to get 1 myself. But the highs can be a bit fatiguing after a while for me. You running these off the wm1a? Tempted to get one myself so would love to know how these 2 pair with the 1a for you.

Describing an IEM sound signature is like tasting coffee , some one could like Nespresso and other person could like Starbucks .

Btw running the cleaning on my nespresso machine with the IER-Z1R on my ears, the block the machines noise and the beeping of my samsung galaxy stop watch

Agree, same to beer and wine... you can discribe the best you can, buy one can only say if he likes it or not after trying himself.

Can someone confirm if the mmcx of the IER-Z1R ear pieces are a single piece construction or are like these in xba-z5 a 3 or 4 segmented mmcx female?

Btw I always felt the xba-z5 had a slight metallic tint to the treble, which doesn't happen with the IER-Z1R, simply silky smooth treble

Sony IER-Z1R production may be meeting demand, at least in European Union.
Ordered back in May, was scheduled to receive in late August.
Got Amazon notice today it's now up to early July; possibly June. Nice!

Interesting.. I ordered on the 11th of May and I still see this (was never "scheduled" for any date; wrote Amazon a couple of weeks ago and they said they have no idea when the manufacturer will fulfill the order):

What differences are people hearing between listening sitting down in a quiet place vs being in crowded transit conditions through the same source?
For me, the isolation is very good, but paradoxically the experience is vastly different especially when am sitting down at a dark quite place relative to other IEMs I’ve used with less noise attenuation. I couldn’t quite listen to them on a flight despite the perceived decent noise isolation.
