SONY IER-Z1R

This and the Solaris really needs a tour. I refuse to blow money on either of them unless the return policy is like amazons (CA can still charge restocking fees) as both could be uncomfortable or just not what I'm looking for and who knows if it will pair with my desktop setup. I'm even considering trying to make it to a cam jam next year by myself since my girlfriend isn't into this hobby or maybe get to try them in tokyo next year. Or I could just buy a trio or fourte, but I would like to make sure I try all hybrid options that I have on a wishlist first.

Nah CA does not charge restock unless you blatantly damage them, or maybe profusely sweat on them, something drastic.

I need the female vocals to shine, without getting too muddy with the upper bass & lower midrange. But these are after all just graphs... we still need to hear how they are being implemented as a whole.

I am not sure what the vocal range is compared to, a specialist vocal IEM like the VE5? Or the "average" IEM. A lot of what I listen to features female vocals and despite the graphs the Solaris has more female vocal presence than the VE8 for example and slightly more than the Phantom, might depend on the artist maybe but Nora Jones, Diana Krall, Madeleine Peyroux or Ella Fitzgerald are just as good as I have heard them with the Solaris, really emotional and nuanced presentation and in no way recessed... Also I wouldn't say the EX1000 has more vocal presence than the Solaris, it's quite similar in term of how vocals are in the soundstage, and if anything the EX1000 features a touch of sibilance to some female vocal so again while the Solaris doesn't....YMMV.

Go figure...
Reviews keep contradicting (last one from a jazz bassist) what is said by those who barely or haven't auditioned them...

Anyway, that's the IER-Z1R thread not the Solaris and I can't wait to get impressions on the IER-Z1R, who are still high up on my radar so hopefully down the line I'll be able to compare them :)

Problem is, the female vocals that I listen to tend to be of a higher pitch... think Asian pop music. Not Diana Krall or Ella Fitzgerald..

They were virtually new when I tried to return the Vega and Andros. Maybe this is a newer policy, but at the time they said if it was opened it was still considered to be used so unless I listen to them with similar gear to mine I am not going to give them any more money. I didn't get an apology from CA when I complained about how the Vega hurt my right ear drum because it doesn't have adequate venting for the amount of air it moves. I really shouldn't consider anything CA built anymore but the Solaris has been getting a lot of hype and it's hard to disregard it. I should give more Asian and euro companies a chance. I tend to buy American when possible but I have been very unhappy 3 out of 3 times with them. I think I would have gotten a full return if I threatened them with leaving a lot of bad feedback on head fi and other boards and kept fighting them on it.

Ive been there too. I sometimes listen to jpop and some female singers can sound recessed compared to English singers on some equipment. I doubt CA and most other USA and euro companies tune for this while hk and Singapore boutique brands are better suited for Asian female singers.

I will try my best...

No I mean when I provided examples you explained why you think the vocal would be recessed on the Solaris now I got it

Sony, if you are listening, we need some help here. Can you please make a Z1R-mmob version? (Married men on budgets)
It needs to be a stealthy matte black.
No way the current version is going to go unnoticed in my household...

Yeah they'll just charge you an extra $200 for the limited edition Z1R stealth edition.

And interestingly they popped up on amazon.fr at a much lower price than .de (1900€ vs 2300€)
