So I dont understand why people saying z1rs treble is hot. Its actually really smooth while being extended. I get no harshness at all even with modern music. Compared to my Noble k10U that always sounded shrill with that kind of music.

Yeah, me neither. I'm a bit treble sensitive, can't bear listening to TH-900, for example, but totally love these. Of course, everyone has a different threshold. But it's safe to say that many head- or earphones are a lot harsher in the treble department.

Many factors such as one's perception of hearing, shape of their canal, and even their music can be reasons why people think the Z1R's treble is hot. That being said, for my music which is nearly all female kpop and jpop, the Z1R is celestial in its sonic properties. The only issue I have with that is that it's not custom, thus it doesn't fit my use case. So I got A12T and Viento-B. I hope that one day in the future Sony can release a custom Z1R.

Your best bet is to buy Z1R and then bring to a CIEM maker, ask for them to custom fort the whole drivers and everything into your own custom shells

Filters can make a big difference as I know from playing with filters on the ER4 years ago but they were designed to use replaceable filters. I like the stock sound and don’t feel comfortable mucking about with such an expensive piece of kit that was not designed with replaceable filters
The problem is distinguishing between different and better when experimenting.

For me, the IER-Z1R is natural and very detailed IEM. Of course MDR-Z1R properties are different, sich as bigger more live stage. Both Z1R sound natural and detailed (after you peform a cable swap on the MDR, KIMBER in this case). On the other hand IER-M7 while having DD bass on a pure BA setup, it is less detailed

Can anyone confirm (or otherwise) that Sony headphone cable MUC - M12SB1 will actually fit into the recessed MMCX fitting of the IER Z1R?

Hi everyone, any idea (or direct experience ideally) if the AQ Cobalt has enough power to drive the Z1R? Asking because the impedance is a bit high at 40 ohms. Thanks!

Cobalt drives 300 Ohm cans very well so plenty powerful enough for IER-Z1Rs.MDR-Z1Rs are 64 Ohm and sound quite nice with Cobalt.
Thanks very much

No more cable swapping needed!!!a bit expensive adapter but I think it still beats the after market cable costing $$$..
I'm waiting on that DD Hifi adapter so impatiently... a dealer in Europe is receiving them soon and I am sure as crap getting one

On another note, the Sony Z1R is comfortably one of the best picks on the market currently, got mine a few weeks back and genuinely in love with it - posted a review recently. The decay in the bass and treble notes is from a different dimension
