Actually it looks like diameter rather than depth might be an issue for some, though it would probably be fine for my big concha! LOLI think you are correct about the depth of it body. The M9 seems to be a more comfortable approach

The M9 is really comfortable, the ear piece also has depth, but the shape has a good fitting, hopefully the Z1R will have a good fitting, although the shape is kind of weird.
Just went into the Sony Centre in Hong Kong today, it seems like the Z1R has been delayed, and delivery is early January 2019.

I'd be curious to know why... but that gives me time to save up (I have big ears)

Ah that sucks Was hoping to audition them near their release time, only silver lining to this is more time to save up for them I guess...

I will decide once I try out the Z1R, I need to see if the fit is ok, and the SQ.

I am buying direct from Sony service canter in Japan, apart from many spares accessories and parts, I have ordered a Z1R cable and M9 cables, they are pretty cheap, but what is so confusing is they say the IER-Z1R is not available in Japan, this is the email section word for word
We regret that the "IER-Z1R" is not a domestic model
Whether that mean it's not available yet, or not available ATM, I haven't a clue, when they say Domestic model, it means local, for Japan only, looking at their site, they only have the M7 and M9, whiles most of the country outside Japan, it's already listed.
So anyone from Japan, can you confirm this.

All I can say is that Sony made no announcement regarding the release of IER-Z1R and DMP-Z1.
We're waiting for Sony's press release.

Maybe there’s a smaller version as this looks a bit too big on that models ear for example? She looks like she’s been violated in some sense.
Just when you think IEMs are getting smaller , Sony comes out with this.
Hopefully the 1ZR is light enough that it can held in the ear with Sony tips and doesn’t need as other part of the conchae to be held in place.

More than that, unless you get them on sale. Sony's site has them listed for $2,299.IER-Z1R Price: $13990 HKD, ~ $1800 USD

Independently wealthy huh?? That's a LOT of cash to drop.
I liked the Z1R so much, that I pre ordered it.
This line up from Sony reminded so much of Campfire's own. The Z1R & The Atlas, M9 & The Andromeda. Weight wise the Z1Rs are pretty hefty, but manageable. Personally I felt they sounded better than The Atlas. This considering I have yet to be enamoured by any hybrid so far.
