decided to replace the 3.5mm jack on a stock dt880 cable.
 
cut the cable.
 
stranded enamel wire. why the hell do they use enamel wire?
 
How do i tin a solder this stuff??

enamel...sandpaper it until the metal is exposed? tot i read somethg like this b4 when i tried soldering

Ive read sandpaper, burning with torch, melting on asprin. Has anyone used any of these methods with good results seeing as how the wires are so thin?
 
also, any chance a solder pot would melt the enamel coating?

solder might melt it,i usually burn the wires for a second with a bbq lighter for best results. be quick, literally only takes a second!
