From what I have read they glued them into place. Pretty hi end stuff. Would 3 screws been a stretch for 250 dollar headphones? I have phones that cost less than 100 and they have them.

Bah, that makes it scarier

That is the drivers. The mu metal they are attached to does have three screws.

Well just got my D2000's, and I started ABing with them. My first reaction, I wish the HFI-780 and D2000 had babies. The D2000 have such sweet sounding strings, while the HFI-780 has such nice punch to it. What the hell, I wasn't suppose to keep both...

LOL I'm going to be in the exact same position StormTracker... I still have no idea which one I'm going to keep

The D2000s have such sweet highs and mids, but the bass is REALLY lacking in terms of punch. While from what I've read, the HFI-780 have the perfect bass for me, I'm not so sure about the mids and highs.

I own both HFI 780 and Denon 2000 and really like both. I like the smoothness of the Denon's but the punch of the 780's is really perfect for harder Rock.

I think they are a bit close in sound but I want to keep both hehehe

Do you guys think the stock 780's are a bit to bright?

I loved the sound myself but after hearing them for 5 hours at a stretch it got my ears tired...so I got the alo mod but kept my stock version to compare.

If you think they are to bright I did a little mod to my stock which is so cool and free and easy. Just cut a paper towel a little bit bigger then the cup size and place it over the driver. It slips right in held in place by the pads. It smoothed out the highs so much I been hearing my stock version last two days and digging them a lot.

Can someone try it and comment?

I just did it on my ALO780V's, I'll post some impressions in a bit.

First impressions are that it seems warmer now, which I like. I think it might sound muffled too, though that might just be a placebo from my ears touching the paper towels.

My gawd. I'm 100% sure these absolutely eliminated the harsh brightness I was experiencing. Previously, voices felt like they were going to pierce my ear drums with how sharp sounding they were. Now they're much warmer and natural to my ears. I'm not sure if it muffles the sound though, I'll try to evaluate it more.

I'd strongly suggest anyone try Rickio's mod

Only took me about a minute to cut out the thing and get it snug in there.

cool dude! yeah I was surprised myself when I tried it. Just make sure the paper towel is flat not puffy or it makes the bass boomy. Also I am sure there is a better material, I just am not sure what yet but for now I been digging my stock version the last two days now hehehe

Hmm... that does sound slightly less harsh, though not too sure yet. I did a pretty bad job filling it in.

I just tried it with a tissue. I think it helped reduce the harshness as well, though to a lesser degree. Sounds a bit different from the paper towel. Though, it was a ***** to get the tissues cut and put in the cups compared to the paper towel.

Next up: Toilet paper

The only changes I have made on mine is to add some acoustical material to the ear cups behind the drivers and to remove the diode board. The sound is getting better but these things need many, many hours of burn in, maybe hundreds.

After hundreds of hours the sound is finally out of my head and starting to gain some distance from me, thank the audio god. I am starting to enjoy these more and more.
