So, I'm considering disowning my son...

Don't beat him too hard... he will never get a job to pay for those Omega2s.

iBuds or the rare use of the MDR CD-180 on my dad, Ink'd on my sister (

), mom doesn't use headphones. I'm the black sheep wearing Grados.

The Hesh are trash, the Ink'd are trash. I haven't heard the Aviators, 50/50, or TiTan yet, but otherwise, every SK I've heard has sounded like trash.

Luckily I've convinced my dad he needs some Meelec M9s.

Tried the SK Aviators at Best Buy, trash. Compared those, the Beats Pro, Studio, and Solos to my M50 + E5 amped, and if I remember right, none of them could even beat an M50 amp'd up with an E5 (just for the bass boost :) main reason why I bought it). SQ of Aviators just sounds.. weird to me IMO. Sounds like a normal SK / Beats. Pros I was like $340 necklace, Studios I was like 250$ necklace, Solos I was like $160 necklace. Pretty sure the Solos sounded worse than my $25 Koss In-Ears from Wal-Mart (last year :)), and the Koss also had a ton more Bass than the 3 Beats claim to have, but then again, it is an IE(M).

I tried them on though, and they did sound pretty bad for $150. Not a fan of how they look either, and not a fan of how they feel on my ears. The shape's odd to me.  Don't recall exactly why though. I checked them out like a month ago.

.....uah they have not been in stores for more than a few weeks, yea the shape was odd, but htey had amidrange, mellow bass, and pretty smooth highs.

Alright, my kids are falling, one by one, just like countries did to communism, in the 50s and 60s.  I wanted my son to do a comparison of his Heshes with my HD25s, but he didn't want a go.  They weren't cool looking enough to him.  Apparently, to a 13 year old boy, looking cool with your phones is far too important to worry about little details like sound quality.

So today, my 8 year old daughter tells me she went to the Skullcandy site, and wants these...

I need to break the trend, and quickly.  Ugh!

Option B: Say, "Son, look, let's get you some good cans. We'll return these, I'll pay for the trouble and we'll get you something that sounds wonderful. Trust me on this, it'll be worth it."

But then, if he's happy, who cares? I wish I was happy with a $50 of headphones instead of my Denons. Sometimes I think having taste is a curse. I spent $2,000 on my computer, $350 on my headphones and am now considering a $350 AMP/DAC as well as whether I should replace my speakers or not ($280).

Imagine what I would have saved had I gone with a cheap Dell, a pair of off-the-shell Sony headphones and a set of Logitech speakers? Not to mention the hard-drive space for not having to have HD video and audio files.

Get a few pairs of KSC75s for like $20 and at night when your kids are asleep, take the skullcandys and secretly replace the drivers with the ones from the ksc75s. =D haha

Yeah, I think the battle with your son is lost.  You can lead a horse to water, but you can't force it to wear good headphones.  Wait, what?

And as for your daughter, well, she's eight.  Eight-year-olds like shiny objects and have the attention span of a goldfish, so just roll something in glitter and run around the room yelling, "STIMULUS! STIMULUS!" and she'll forget about the headphones within seconds.

Get your daughter some ATH AD700's.  She'll love the colour - and they sound great!  My 8yo daughter loves them.  One problem solved ....

Aw, c'mon, slap some ALO cables on those, and deliver the juice with maybe an Eddie Current Balancing Act,  and just like that Junior's cookin' with gas!  OK, maybe a bit of matte black Krylon and some masking tape will help too.

Man, I do remember my first headphone experience - I think I was already in my teens actually as it was the mid 70's...a pair of Koss Pro 4A's just like these ...not quite in a league with your kids choice, but, not to make fun of your screen name, but, well, yes, butt ugly!  I remember the first time I put them on my head I thought they were the most amazing thing since sliced bread.

We all went astray when we were young, I'm sure. I used to think these $30 Sonys were the greatest things ever. I eventually upgraded to a pair of Sennheiser PX100s but as far as I was concerned if that's what good audio sounded like then I wasn't interested.

Then in college I had a friend who started to introduce me to a world of better audio (he was only using Bose speakers on his laptop but they were a step up from what I was used to) so when it came time to buy some speakers myself I decided I needed to find something as good. Then I noticed a difference (Acoustic Energy kicks Bose's butt, easy) and it all went downhill from there.

And yes, she's 8. If she was asking for high-end headphones I'd actually be a little worried.
