Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

Can you guys, owners of se846, take pictures of the crossover of se846. There are 5 orange/goldish ( capacitors/resistors). In my case, one of them looks a lil bit darker than the other in each earpiece.

These were bought new last week but the dates on the carton indicate built in January 2015. Superb performers on my 6S. Both sides have uniform colouring. Hope this helps.

Mine has the dark resistor as well - which is cool by me - I like dark.

Can you guys participate in taking pictures of ur se846. Just to clarify the universality of this darkened resistor/capacitor element!

It's easier to call Shure and have it replaced. It's clearly bothering you.

@Mitchell4500 had improper solder on one side of his iems and had it replaced. This could be a similar issue.

I would like to get it replaced, since the black seals ( the one you see if u removed the nozzle ) has peeled off, though I have not changed the nozzle filter only twice or so.

i have had mine shure se846 fixed last year. The inner sealing and outer sealing was broken/peeled off.The service company here in norway only got the inner sealing sent from shure.Shure told them (benum.no  norwegian dealer/importer of shure) that they only had replacements for the inner sealing. Not the outer one.But benum used the inner sealing as the outher sealing. They managed to put it on the nozzle. But its not perfect fitting. And i dont know if it can have some negative impact on the sound.

Hi all,

I recently purchased a fiiO x5ii to pair with my se846. Reading through the various threads it seemed like a good upgrade from my iPod touch 5th gen. I spent a few hours listening to the same music files on both devices and am having a hard time trying to find a huge difference between the 2. Should I spend more time listening to the x5 then go back to the ipod to see if there really is a difference or will i only notice a difference if i play hi-res files? The files i have tested on both devices are ALAC 44/16 and some 320kbps mp3 files. I feel that i am hearing a slight difference in the fact that i don't need to have the volume turned up as loud on the x5 to hear slightly more detail where as on the ipod more detail is revealed only once the volume is turned up.

I was just curious on otheres views on the 2 devices with the se846 and weather or not its worth keeping the x5.

thanks.
Dave

I've had my Shure SE215 for a year now and love them, should I upgrade to this? Is there like a massive gap between them? Worth the money?

I upgraded from the SE425 and the difference is definitely noticeable. Even now going back to the SE425 after getting use to the sound from the SE846, it's night and day. I would imagine the SE215 being a bigger gap.

I had the se215s, and they were pretty terrible. Build quality was all it had going, since the sound was so muddy. No highs or sub bass. I had also read that all other SE models had lacking sub bass (except for the se846).

Someday, I must try the 846s....
