I switched to the white filters some weeks ago, will not switch back to red.
As much flak as I have given indigogo, he was right about this.
The (at this point quite old) BA technology from Shure and their tuning still sound a lot "dirtier" than an EST or AMT driver for example, but I enjoy the SE846 a lot still. A true classic.

Its all down to personal taste, I prefer the red over the white filter by quite a margin.

Indigogo isn’t right or wrong, he’s just got an opinion which not everybody has to agree with 😉

Edit: I listen to ripped MP3s, downloaded Tidal playlists, Apple Music, on my: Astell & Kern SR35, iPod shuffle (2nd gen for the gym), M2 MacBook Pro).

Hello! New to the forum and new to the audiophile world! Casual listener but do appreciate non AirPods quality wired in ear options.
I listen to 90s Rock and Alternative, Smooth Jazz, 80s New Wave mostly and can notice a difference in terms of clarity, depth and the immersive experience with the 846 Gen 2...but I am wondering what would be a solid upgrade moving forward?
I was looking at 64 Audio's U4s versus the U12t.

I've grown from my first decent IEM's of the SE846 ~ 8 year ago, my first wow moment after having SE530/535 which didn't impress me.

Of mine below, if you can afford and fits your ears go straight for the one on the right, Sony IER-Z1R. Makes my SE846 sound pants! I also had some Noble K10U (now sold) but didn't find them a big leap or much difference to the SE846's. The Fiio FD7 is amazing as a single Dynamic Driver IEM once its burnt in and totally different to the Shure. For me, the Z1R is just amazing (apart from big size that won't suit some).

For clarity and immersiveness, don't hesitate to try KSE-1200 or AMT16.
For depth, something like Sony Z1R or VE EXT is something worth listening to :) ✌️

The M9's have great clarity/balance, not sure on the 'immersiveness' descriptions meaning. I found the KSE-1200 a bit flat on testing myself. Not heard the AMT16.

If its what I think you mean the Z1R is very immersive too.

Note: the SE846 is still excellent for the price IMO and will never sell my original ones. Still most comfy too and very durable polycarbonate shells.

Check out the IMR thread below. There are some amazing upgrades to SE846s there at a reasonable price if you can find yourself a pair.

I used to own the KSE1500, and still consider it one of the best, if not the best, headphone I’ve heard to date. The extra box is a bit cumbersome for mobile use (reason to finally sell it), but for more stationary use it’s excellent in so many ways.

I do like mit 64audio N8 though, having the advantage of not needing an extra amp…

I consider one of the sets that combine their dynamic driver, bone conduction and ESTs to be quite on another league in comparison to the se846s as it comes to separation and sense of space.
Follow that thread for more details about specific models.
Having said that I do consider se846s to be still a hell of an IEM.

Do any use se846 with balanced cable for more power? I got myself a Fiio ka3 and since it has a 4.4, I swapped cabled to try the 846. It gets too loud, and had me wondering if its an overkill!

I never use balanced because the SE846 is very low impedance and the higher output impedance of balanced connections don't mesh well with this particular IEM. YMMV.
