Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

Just swapped out the comply TSX-100 I normally use for a pair of spin fit cp800 to compare. Have to say the cp800 are noticeably brighter to the point that I had to switch the filters back to blue from the white I had been using. Definite gain in imaging and instrument placement but the bass also sounds “leaner” albeit still very present and still deep, detailed and “layered”. Not sure whether the changes to the bass are for me or not, I need more time to audition and decide, but the improvements in mid range, treble and imaging very positive. Obviously the comply’s isolate much better due to their foam.
Fairly common consensus that foam cuts off some of the treble, which is what you are hearing. Any reason you are not using the olives that came with them?

I had also heard that foam cut off treble somewhat but had also heard (second hand from a review site) that a frequency curve graph had shown this “not” to be the case but I definitely find the spin fits brighter with improved imaging 🤷🏻‍♂️. Not a fan of the olives because I had never had a reasonable fit from them (the spin fits seem to give me a better fit than the Shure olives) and always preferred the foam, especially the yellow. Tried the comply’s to get the comfort and isolation of the yellow foam but with longer life and all things considered was very happy with them but I must admit that I am enjoying the sound of the spin fits.

Is there a specific size that’s needed for compatibility, or will any tsx-100 tip fit the se846?

Final Edit:

@ZappaMan sorry was a bit distracted yesterday so here goes again in an effort to be clearer: The "100" refers to the size and is constant across the entire range, there are several sizes (100, 200, 300, etc) for different universal IEMs and the 100 is the correct size for the Shures regardless of which "series" of tip you want to use.

They also have different "series" such as Isolation (T Series), Sport Pro, Comfort (TS series - without the wax guard, TSX with the wax guard) and Professional (P series, which appears to be only available in the 100 size for the Shures) amongst others, including for specialised products like the EarPods etc.

If you do a search on the website for the correct tip using the search tool based on IEM manufacturer and select Shure it only shows the P series as an option, but if you look at the different "consumer products" from the drop down menu and click on the confort series (for example) you will see that the 100 size for it is designed for Klipsch, Westone, etymotic research and Shure, and this is what I have always used with no problems so no idea why searching for Shure with the search tool only gives the Pro series as an option.

Sorry for the confusion and I hope that helps

Head fi has confirmed it is deleting my account (my own request) and as this is one of the last very few threads I have remained on I just wanted to say goodbye to those (nice ones) of you that have accompanied me on here in these past years. Happy listening to everyone.

head-fi is a time sink (like many enthusiast communities...).
Enjoy the music!

Got a Chord Mojo today which I try with different IEMs and cans.
I have to admit I expected better performance from the Shures.
They actually sound better (better resolution, more expansive presentation) from my LG V30.
I have to disagree. The 846 and mojo sound a noticeable step better (more engaging and organic) than with my V60 to my ears. Have always loved the combo. But to each their own!

Still use my 846 daily. Never get tired of that subbass. I know where Fablestruck is coming from with the presentation through the V30, as I used to use that as my pseudo dap. I still do from time to time for convenience when I can't be bothered with a flappy dongle (hehe), but I do prefer them through the Lotoo Paw S1 and warmer sources in general. I'm just not a fan of the ESS Sabre sound these days; it's a bit artificial for my tastes. Kinda wish I didn't sell my mojo, but if Chord do get around to releasing the mojo 2 I'll pick one of those up at some point. I like my sound organic!
