Just to address the post about the iPod Touch 4th generation, it has an output impedance of 7 ohms according to this post here. That is a tad high and will result in some boomy bass on an 846 but it can perhaps be EQ'd out.

About the same price as the Brainwavz Balanced cable. A bit more for the Candy Cane’s extra snazziness, though.

Or same price for a less gaudy cable, depending on taste.

Without knowing anything else, I'd trust Brainwavz for better quality, though. In fact, I have a B400 with a Candy Cane cable coming my way. I'm betting it looks better in person.

I will agree the Penon Audio cable is a nice looking silver-colored cable. The Candy Cane cable is my pound for pound favorite MMCX Balanced cable; good looking with good utility for a very good price.

Enjoy your Candy Cane when it arrives!

I couldn’t find my CCK, so I re-purchased a new one (I’ll probably give my first one away if I find it in the future), and an AmazonBasics Micro USB to Lightning adapter to have an extra option to get the REI to function, and as a way to charge (and possibly sync) my iPhone X or any Lightning product via any USB cable. :dancers:

I've been enjoying my SE846 for a couple years ago, but I sometimes consider looking to try a different IEM. Are there any IEMs in the $1K to $1.5K range that you'd consider an upgrade to the the SE846? There seems to be a lot of fans of the Campfire Andromeda, which is similarly priced to the SE846. The Beyerdynamic Xelento also appears interesting. Any suggestions?

I love the Xelento :) It just won't isolate as well as the 846.

I like the Andromeda too, but you've got to have tough ears to accommodate those sharp metal corners. It's not very ergonomic.

I’d personally go for the Andromeda with your favorite eartips (my favorite are the large size Penon Audio gray/red tips). For a lower cost option, I would go for the UE Custom, as you can EQ the sound signature pretty much completely to your liking with its UE/Jaybird cable and accompanying application. It would be compatible with the SE846 (or any MMCX-compatible ear/headphone) as well.

Hey guys, I bought the SE846 a few days ago after being a happy owner of the SE535 for many years! I have been running them in over the weekend and they sound great already, connected to a FiiO X7ii.

Can anyone recommend a 2.5mm TRRS balanced cable that's preferably a silver/clear colour to match the clear SE846? Or maybe a copper/bronze. I would be looking at hopefully spending no more than £100-£150 and it would need to be available either in the UK or for delivery to the UK.

Using google seems to give me loads of U.S. links for cables costing nearly as much as the IEMs themselves! Thanks in advance.

I have had the se846 for about 3 months now and I am enjoying them with my iPhone 6s Plus. I realize that I am not using them to their full potential. So I ordered an Audioquest Dragonfly Red and plan on using it with the Apple CCK. Anybody else have experience with this or similar setup?

Yes, but I wouldn’t say the Dragonfly Red paired with my iPhone 6 changed the sound in a positive manner. To achieve the best auditory experience out of my iPhone 6, I use Tidal for Hi-Fi streaming and Neutron for local listening.

I'm a long time user of the SE846 and just tried out the Xelento for a couple weeks (which I reviewed here: https://www.thesynops.com/beyerdynamic-xelento-earphones-synopsis/)

The Xelento is a great IEM but I prefer the SE846 overall. The Xelento has really strong sub-bass but falls short in mid-bass; you'll definitely notice the difference coming from the SE846. On the mid-range, things aren't vastly different. The SE846's midrange is lush and in-your-face, while the Xelento's aren't quite as forward but are notably airy. The Xelento wins on higher-end treble retrieval, but its smooth reproduction doesn't give it as much advantage here as the crystal clear IE 800.

To sum up, if you go for the Xelento, you'll still get something you'll really enjoy. But to me, it's more of a side-grade than an upgrade. Ultimately, it depends on what sound aspects you value more. Hope this helps! Tough decision here.

Here is some stuff I have bookmarked regarding impedance matching, tips, and filters. That should get you started.

EDIT: I just realized you only asked about filters. My bad. It's the third one.
Thanks!!!
