No, you can't go from balanced to unbalanced when connecting devices. The worst case scenario is that you will damage the AMP8 and the best scenario is that it has some fail safe but in the end it will not work. The main reason for different sizes of balanced jacks is not to connect them by accident to unbalanced devices because this may cause damage.

My KSE 1200 has arrived but ibasso dx 220. Just wonder if anyone has any thoughts on the sound of these combo. Much appreciated.

A very good combination when using the Android Mango player. The parametric equalizer is essential to get a balanced sound. I would recommend starting with the settings available from https://www.dropbox.com/s/pg6rsh6w2ollj4l/Shure KSE1500.pdf?dl=0. I use a line out setting of about 110 - 120 for the DX220 and adjust the volume wth the KSE1200 amplifier. Your mileage may vary depending on the type of music you listen to. This keeps the amp within the Shure recommended 'orange' range and will not overdrive the iems. With these settings the pad can remain at 0 rather than -10db.The MangoOS does not yet have a parametric equalizer so the sound with the standard equalizer may not be to your taste. You mileage will vary. A good quality 3.5 mm male - male interconnect seems to improve the clarity of sound over the Shure supplied 6" cable. Custom eartips/sleeves like those from Sensaphonics also help both for isolation and lower volumes while still revealing all of the detail. Bass response seems to be better as well.

throughout my journey of owning so many headphones and iems, I can say this, I used to hate listening to coldplay album XY as on everything I used to own that album used to sound like utter crap, until I bought my shure kse1500 and stax 007 mk2, this shows how marvellous the kse1500 is. Good luck enjoying that album on anything other than kse1500 or 007 mk2

i can literally confirm that kse1500 is a marvel, and i am surprised why it does not get more love here on headfi, it puts all iems and headphones except stax 007 mk2 to shame ( if you look at my inventory that includes every item listed there )

I have yet to find one headphone other than stax 007 mk2 that can me make enjoy the XY album, as for iems that i own/pwned forget about it only kse1500 has nailed it period

if anyone concerned it lacks bass, or needs any fix in any frequency I can say form my perspective it is dam perfectly tuned, that no eq what so ever is needed, and I listen to all genres

LOL, you have owned/used a LOT of 'cans and IEMs. I do agree, the KSE1500/1200 are very unique and I will never sell my 1200 - it's a keeper.

It's not as flashy/sexy as the other IEMs out there with everyone using balanced connections and what not and it makes any combo an instant 'stack' which a lot of people don't like to carry around. But the sound is really really great to my ears and I always enjoy it.
