When Grado RS1x is connected via XLR to Monoprice Cavalli Liquid Platinum, fitted with Telefunken ‘red tip / medical grade’ ECC82 s, this track title & music sum it up nicely :
You can use Grados with the LP? From what I remember, folks were pretty much saying the gain was too high for most low z phones (that was ages ago, so I could be remembering wrong)

I think that the LP volume function was adjusted slightly - more of the volume rotation is useable (or I am deafer). Also, I am using 20 mu ECC82 s versus 32 mu 6922 s etc; that gives a little more ‘headroom’.
This one is an anomaly. There are (and I own quite a few) 12-inch 45 r.p.m. singles from the golden era (diamond globe?) of disco. On my Yamaha YPF-1000 turntable with a Supex SD-900 moving-coil cartridge plus Cotter step-up transformer [all currently boxed …], these 45s sounded titanic via headphones or loudspeakers.
