The point of having two narrow bands was so that one fits below the bottom of the screen, and the other one covers up less screen space. It's also ergonomically and structurally better. It certainly makes using a dongle dac less awkward, by eliminating the dangling of said dongle.

Agree on your "warm and rich headphone for cheap" assessment - I'm giving up some detail but it's quite a musical combo.
