Shanling M8 Android Portable player

I've tried the universal Valkyries for a good while, does the M8 really make the bass come to life for the Valkyrie? I might be in the minority here, but found the Valkyrie to be a little bass light lol. Overall good IEM though

I’ve got them to and agree to a degree, good bass but not heavy bass like some say. My U12t have a lot more. I just need a better player though, using my LG G7 and waiting for a DAP that I’m after to come back in stock.

Hey Guys, I need to ask a dumb question, can you connect a type c flash memory to the C port on the M8?

Maybe it‘s just a fit issue why your LXs are Bass light?
Maybe, but I believe I have a seal on mine. They are currently getting refit, so we'll see when I get them back, but before I got them refit, there was a seal. Also, universals in general sound different than their custom counter parts, so that could be a factor to. Most people who reviewed the LX use universal. What's interesting about the Legend X is the bass quantity comes out when it needs to but isn't always present which threw me off for a bit.

In general, it's not the head raddling bass that I was hoping for until I use my RME ADI 2 DAC FS and turn the bass dial all the way up to suit my preferences. People do have different definitions on what they call bass heavy or bass head level especially in the audiophile scene. A lot of audiophiles that I have met/read/watched over the years seem to prefer neutral and when there is any added bass (even just a little bit), it's bass head level to them. Like many reviewers said the Valkyrie which I tried was bass heavy and I didn't think so and I know for sure that had a good seal for me. The Sony IER-Z1R had more bass than that.

I am glad you are enjoying the Legend X though, it is amongst the best I have listened to.

Yes, you can connect flash drivers directly to the M8. It will act as a standard Android device.

You can play directly from flash drive in Shanling Music app, use file management app, etc.

That makes sense, regarding CIEM vs UIEM.

Obviously I can only speak for the Universal LX and all I can say (audiophile standards or not) - they have tremendous bass. I owned the Z1R before and they are not in Legend X territory regarding bass quantity.

Also note that you can alter the frequency of the bass dial on the RME. I think it it defaults to 85hz. Try to lower that (I/O Settings..) to 20-40hz and also use the 5-band EQ to raise the whole bass-band from 20 - 100hz.

Still, the LX (at least Universal) should have nice bass without EQ. I use the LX on my SE200 without EQ and the bass shines by default. Hope refitting will do the job for you!

Interesting point on the Z1R vs LX, hopefully the refit will change my opinion on it or some burn in may help a lot. If not, I'll wait till the audio shows this year (assuming there will be) and try out the LX universal and compare.

I didn't know you can alter the frequency of the bass dial on the RME, I'll definitely give that a shot! Thank you for the all input, I'll report back once they come back in.

Sorry, but what kind of connection is the 3.5mm PRO?
Is the Hifiman standard balanced connection trough 3.5mm?
Thanks.

The 3.5mm has balanced configuration but does not have a set standard. So far people is following either HifiMan or Sony style. The 2.5mm has a standard due to it being introduced by A&K.

The 4.4mm has a standard because it follows JETA standards

I believe The 3.5 Pro is a balanced style that follows Sony style and has the ability to take in either Balanced or single ended 3.5mm style. It is a new configuration introduced by Chinese associations of some short, and by far it has not been widely received due to the standardized 4.4mm coming from Japan being widely adopted

4.4 is bae (if for no reason than the undeniable satisfaction of inserting a 4.4 jack into a source) and will always be my choice when I have a choice.

Same here! Though I would prefer mini XLR-4, but they are too big for portable. In fact it would waste more space to implement it than 4.4mm

So, being compact and portable, the 4.4 is hard to beat

More surface area contact, too!

3.5Pro is standard now growing on Chinese market. It's not compatible with old Hifiman or Sony, as 3.5PRO demands special plug with red spacer, to properly fit into the socket.

If you want to use 3.5PRO, be sure to get cable from manufacturer who knows exactly what it is.

Here you can get some basic info on it http://www.erji.net/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=2116088

That article is back in 2018 and nothing new really...that was slightly announced after the 4.4mm

I guess it was to compete but seeing many makers are not considering 3.5pro as a primary choice which is understandable as it has no standard unlike 4.4mm

anyways, I don’t care much for 3.5pro. I will care for an M8Pro
