Shanling M6 Player - New version with ESS DACs coming soon

Will the M6 have a true dedicated line out setting with different opamps, or will it be sharing essentially the same power output as the single-ended phone out? Regardless the answer, I’m happy to hear that the sound quality is better than M5s, which imho, sounds pretty great for a portable already.

The price has me wondering as I was recently looking at the M5S,

It currently sells for $429 on amazon and you are pricing this at $499. It is unusual for a manufacturer to price two DAP's so close together. Especially when one offers so much more than the other, is the M6 meant to replace the M5S? If not it most likely will, I can't imagine to many people choosing the M5S over the M6 unless the M5S gets a big price drop. Are you planning to keep selling the M5S after the M6 release?

If there are some good deals coming for the M5S it could become a contender for me over the M2X. As great as the M6 looks it really has features I don't need and would rather not pay for.

There is still quite large group of users that wishes to use simple DAP dedicated system and don't want to use cluttered Android, with its follow up problems(screen size, battery life, start time, etc). For them M5s still stays as alternative choice.

But there is possibility of small price adjustment. Will see when M6 gets closer to release.

I have to wonder with the M6 if Shanling will abandon Linux altogether and use Android on all their future DAP's. Sticking with Linux on some of their DAP's could be a way to distinguish them from other manufacturers. I would still consider the M2X if it ever comes to Canada.

We will continue with both Android and our MTouch system. At least until we figure out how to get usable Android into device with 1.54 inch screen.

Regardless the answer, I’m happy to hear that the sound quality is better than M5s, which imho, sounds pretty great for a portable already.

No dedicated lineout circuit.

I wonder since this is a new DAP, why does it still utilizes old DAC chips? Does the 4495SEQ has unique characteristics?

We chose 4495S based on our experience with it in some of our 2channel designs, we think it provides great and little bit unique sound.

So the M6 is open to pre-order for China only on Sept 16th?
Where and when would I be able to order one in the UK ?

When we have the system ready for international market. Not exact release date for now.

Yeah, I've browsed on both Baidu and Bilibili.
Shanling seems to have released a Firmware update to fix some early issues (battery drains etc...)

Very impressive showing of customer service so far.
@Shanling Do you guys have an official distributor in the UK so far?

Yeah, these early issues of M6 is why we are keeping it away from international release for now.

KS distribution is our distributor in UK.

I am very reluctant to purchase new generation DAP's like the M6 being your first Android DAP. After prolonged delays in firmware releases for the M0 which caused me to sell it. The thought of going through this again with a much more expensive DAP and the likely growing pains Shanling will go through adopting Android. I am looking at the M5S if there is a price drop but I know that your Linux based DAP's still need work. Spliting development between your MTouch Linux based DAP's and new Android DAP's concerns me.

Several times you used your small software team as a reason for long delays in firmware updates. How much worse will it be with trying to update both Linux and now Android based DAP firmware's going forward.
