We are working on some changes to EQ UI too, thanks for your feedback.

Glad to hear you’ve got something in the works. I realized I could’ve worded a bit more politely but thanks for listening.

I have recently obtained this player as part of my current DAP collection
While it is a very nicely constructed player with easy to use interface with good sound I have found a couple of very frustrating problems
Data base update is very slow and appears to stop and start compared to any other player i have had (exception pono player)
The library/data base limit is 40,000 songs which appears correct - I have successfully put in 6 different 200-400gb micro sd cards ranging 21-35,000 songs and the player will update all of the songs
I can the play from album, artist icon no problem -
I normally play my collection of songs on shuffle - However from the songs icon the player will not play on any of the 6 different cards i have used with this many songs in the data base - you can see the list of songs but if you select any of them to play then player will freeze and not respond and requires a forced shut down
If i reduce the number of songs on the card to under 10,000 then it will play from the list in the song icon no problem - I have not bothered to try and find exact number of files that his problem starts
I have experimented on the folder icon - while it plays no problem the play through folder for anything in sub folders does not appear to work. I can place 11,000 tracks in a folder and it plays no problem but does not appear to play through and sub folder with songs in it
Tried different firmware versions - same effect
Not sure if anyone else has experienced this - i have another 15 daps currently on hand in my collection and all can shuffle over 20,000 songs from the song/track list no problem except this one

Dont know if this is helpful or not. I currently have 15,307 songs on mine and can play through all, with no problem

Along with all the requests for future updates , is there any way to make this device run less hot when in balanced? It gets disturbingly hot after a while.
just bought the m5s yesterday,, pretty good build quality and nice sounding device, but true,, while using balanced the device is getting uncomfortably hot after a while. (had to move the device from my pocket)

oh and anyone noticed this device is kinda making some popping / clicking sound while turning on the device? its exactly when you press the power button and the shanling logo appears.

update 1 :
just noticed that when you press play for the first time after the device turned on there are clicks / popping sound as well from the device. any of you guys noticed it too?

update 2 :
when you try to resume the song after the device on standby mode (no song playing and left for about 1 min) the double clicking / popping sound can be heard again from the device

just a bit worried because i have never experienced something like this before

I ve had mine since January. The little click or "pop" is the circuits turning on. It's no problem and confirmed by Shanling somewhere in this thread that it's part of the way the circuit was designed, deep sleep. Standby etc....

ooft i see,, it just that it sounds like my old gas stove, so i kinda worried lmao, thanks for the information.

and about the balanced out "hot" temperature,
i assume when using the device balanced out the device is going to be a bit warm then?

Yes, using balanced output makes the M5s warm since it uses dual DAC ... Don't know if this is normal or not. I just take out the device from its leather pouch when using it at home..

lets hope the device "hot" temperature can be reduced a bit via firmware update

Regarding clicking, as other said, it's normal, it's parts of circuit getting activated. You hear it again if you pause playback for 1 minute, because when it's inactive, it turns itself off to save battery.

In balanced mode, you have twice as many parts being active inside, so yes, player gets bit warmer. What is "uncomfortable hot" is kind of hard to guess, if you would manage to measure temperature on your device, I can consult it with our engineers.
Also, software changes will not reduce amount of actual hardware working and emitting heat inside device.

Any spotify support?

We would love to, but for that we would need somebody from Spotify actually wanting to work with us on that. And since they have 100+M of users on phones, I guess they do not care at all.
