Shanling M5 Ultra - High-End MTouch Portable Player - Releasing in April 2024

I'm interested in knowing two situations for those who already have the M5 ultra:

1) Was any noticeable difference in the sound signature felt when using IEMs because of the high output impedance?

2)What is the integrated TIDAL option like? Will it always have the login saved or will we have to read the blessed QR code every time to go to the TIDAL link and log in via smartphone? I hate this on some Hiby DAPs with HibyOS but TIDAL streaming (Ex: R3 pro saber or R2 II)

I will let it run a little for some hours to have better burn in as its very fresh. I always do 200hours burnin before any real judgement, I will do 100h and let you guys know how it sounds.

As first impressions Id say its ultra positive I really love the sound, it has a bit slightly less bass hit then H5, in other hand m5 ultra is better in soundstage feels more expansive and open. Yet both are very similar in speed speed and smoothness of sound. In overall Id say its an amazing dap, I really love it and for the price its darn affordable and you get pretty much a flagship sound here 🙂😎

Later will post more

@Vitaly2017. I would be interested to know what the sound is like with the ie 600. Do you hear well with the M5U? Or is it not such a good couple? I would be very grateful for some brief information

Hi ie600 are a very remarkable iem its actually one of the best top I ever heard. Reason for this is because they sound very natural and not neutral cold like ie900 which ressembles hd800s to my ears. Ie600 are very very pleasant and easy to listen yet they are ultra accurate, true life like sounding. I even set them to a test and was able to discern even the slightest microscopic sound nuances. They are extremely precise, nuanced, even sounding very resolving, treble is also darn good. Bass is my favourite part of the ie600 its super deep and you can feel and hear just everything that the source provides.

Overall they are natural and vocals are very realistic in them. They do love warm sources so yes every shanling dap does work like a charm with them.

I will admit you need to be careful with eartip fit, I use stock silicons. They provide the absolute best accuracy and tonality. You need to rotate them well to get that superior fit, once you get it it will be easier every time you put them on. Also will sound simply amazing.
Well I do like them honestly and highly recommend them.

Thanks Tiger, I know that the ie 600 are fantastic because I have them too. Yes, that's the case with the ear tips. For me, the Xelastec work very well and have a very good bass effect. In my opinion they just don't work well with my Sony AM 2. And since my M5 Ultra is coming next week, I thought I'd ask how they fit together.

I can confirm ie600 pairs best with warmer sources, if you where not satisfied with am2 I can be confident you’ll love the m5 ultra paired with ie600 as they pair well with my zm2 😁
Some reason I love ie600 paired with m5 ultra and h5 more then my zm2. For edm music its simply delightful, zm2 is best for audiophile music…

I also like to stay stock, cable and eartips as it retains the original tuning and performance ability of what sennheiser created with ie600, I find it ultimate that way. Ie600 just sounds so real and true to it self in replicating the sound from source as exactly it been fed.

I'm curious to see how it harmonizes together. My M5 Ultra will arrive at the beginning of next week. I only replaced the cable from the ie 600 because with the original cable I always lost contact as soon as I moved my head or walked and with the original eartipps the seal wasn't good. The ie 600 had hardly any bass and was far too shrill. Sounded somehow totally hollow and flat and almost no bass. Now with Xelastec and the new cable, which is 5N sterling silver with palladium coating, it sounds very good. Hope the M5U will be fantastic. By the way, I'm really into the Shannling sound but only with AKM chips I previously had the M 8 and loved it. I don't like the Am2 because it's pretty flat in comparison and there's hardly any dynamic in my opinion. So Shanling Forever :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::smiley::smiley: Cheers. :beerchug:

1) There are hundreds of IEMs and they will be affected in different ways. it's best to ask for certain model you are interested in.

2) You only need to login once. You would only need to do login again if you do a factory reset on your device.

We are now finalizing works on the firmware V2.0 that will bring the Tidal to M5 Ultra.

Just received my M5 Ultra yesterday

Now pair with my Technics TZ700 and Onso 06 4.4mm

First Impression:
Mid Gain 30 is enough to drive
10% battery drop for 4.4mm Mid Gain after 90 minutes
Better to use the case as the edges are quite sharp
A bit lag when scrolling the screen
Sound signature similar to M7, soundstage a bit narrower than M7, good resolution, more neutral than H7 and M6 Ultra

To conclude in this moment, quite satisfy with this product (In terms of Price and Sound, and for me No android system is ok)
I will recommend this to the one who mainly listen to their own files.
Little surprised it sounds more similar to M7 than the M6 Ultra, considering the Shanling literature / house tuning and the dac chips being used. In terms of sound quality, would you consider this an upgrade to the M6 Ultra, or more of a side grade?

Has the Eddict player been improved to where it can now store more than one EQ preset? I use a different player on my other 3 Shanling daps because of this one thing. I really want to get this new dap, but I need to have those EQ presets.

M5 Ultra has 3 custom EQ profiles and you can also adjust the other 8 presets.

Eddict player app only offers one custom EQ. But M5 Ultra is not using Eddict Player app for playback or EQ, just SyncLink remote control.

If I'm lucky, my M5U will arrive tomorrow, unfortunately my dealer here in Vietnam doesn't have any leather cases yet. It should take another 1-2 months until they are available here. Really crap!! But I'm really itching to try it out. I'm very excited about the sound!! Does the M5U also have OTA? Or do updates have to be downloaded from the website because of the operating system?

You should be able to order case from any seller on Aliexpress.

While we don't recommend to purchase products on Aliexpress, for just the case it's fine.
