Hi. I want to ask if it is suitable for metal music? Thanks.
If its tonality its like the m6 ultra, then no for the people who are cymbals sensitive like me.

So the M5 Ultra at $589 or the Cayin N3 Ultra at $529?

The N3 Ultra with tube amp is a heavily stripped down android DAP with no streaming. The M5 Ultra is a non-android DAP with limited streaming capability. The battery life between the two is close with the M5 Ultra having a small edge. Somehow I feel more confident in the Hiby audio optimized android OS than the Shanling MTouch OS. The N3 Ultra has a more powerful Snapdragon SOC. Having owned 2 Shanling MTouch DAP's I found the OS to be the weakest part of both DAP's. I am hoping Shanling has made some major improvements to the MTouch OS.

Since both are brand new and both releasing about the same time this seems like a good wait until Black Friday comparison with lots of reviews and user opinions to come in the interim I am sure along with some firmware updates.

The N3 Ultra is currently on the top of my list of most desired DAP's so it will take some really good M5 Ultra reviews for it to unseat the N3 Ultra.
I have both and can tell you the N3U Software is super buggy and not finished should not have been released as is.

I find the M5U warmer than my M8

I bought both the Cayin N3U and Shanling M5U.

I thought with the tubes the N3U would have been the warmer unit. NOPE the Cayin plays neutral and extremely resolving.

The M5U is lovely in design and sound loving both players so different.

I guess one of the advantages of having your own OS is having full control of its implementation. Cayin relying on Hiby for their OS leaves them vulnerable to issues that need to be addressed and may take longer to resolve if they need Hiby's help since Hiby has their own DAP's to worry about. I always thought Shanling made a mistake creating their own OS with the MTouch, but in this case it looks like it paid off. Still not to sure about Shanling's android based OS capabilities yet.

While we would love some more advanced EQ system, so far it's quite complicated and unsure if we can ever reach it.

For light, unfortunately hardware limits it just to two colors.
