When it's available in the European market? Does it now support gapless through Shanling app?

i would see this as competition for the sony A105, and the A105 pretty much disappointed me. i hope this is better.

How did the Sony disappoint you? The M3X tops the A105 spec wise all the way except for a slight edge to Sony in battery life under certain conditions. Except for the Sony sound processing enhancements if you are into that. Also keep in mind you are not paying the premium for the Sony name which I have started discounting over the last few years. Sony tried android DAP's then stopped. Now they have restarted and from the reviews I have read they tried to squeeze android into their underpowered A series and not very successfully it seems. You also seem to need to use Sony's own built in app to get the best out of the A105. I doubt this will be the case with the M3X and third party app support.

With the M3X you are getting alot more power, comparable battery life, a larger screen, looks like more RAM though Sony never gives that spec. Solid bluetooth codec support and Shanling is known for solid bluetooth performance, solid on both my M0 and Q1. If this were Shanlings first android DAP I might be concerned about implementation but they have plenty of practice now with their other android DAP's. Having demoed and owned both Sony and Shanling DAP's it seems Sony feels the need to add alot of sound processing features to their DAP's to improve sound quality. Shanling just makes good sounding DAP's period, no extra sound processing needed. I have never felt the need to use an equalizer with my Shanling DAP's. Shanling like Sony has been making audio products for decades and they do it very well.

International release is planned for March.

Currently there is no gapless in Shanling Music app. But other apps can work gaplessly.

Thanks for the reply. Any plans for gapless playback? I listen a lot of live music so that would be a bummer.

MQA support it's available through the app (local files) and streaming through Tidal?

Gapless playback is #1 on to-do list for our software team.

MQA through Shanling Music app with local files and Tidal.

How fast will this be running Amazon HD? I have the R3 and it is really slow.

Most of my Shanling units have been good and solid so I am interested.

Weird that the native music app still does not do gapless. Sure we can run other software but normally the best bet is the native vendor app.

Hi. I'm relatively new to the world of these portable players, so don't bash me too much with this question:

I'm curious if this would have the capability to play video files as well? I know this is head-fi and the primary focus is on audio (DACs) with these portable android based players, but if I'm on a road trip and want to watch a movie, would this have the capability to do so? I've read about some of Sony's older Walkmans have that capability.

I'm looking for a portable media player that can do both video & audio, but something that is not a smartphone -- I don't want something the size or weight of a smartphone nor do I want to worry about draining the battery of my existing phone. I also don't need a device with smartphone capabilities either (calling/WiFi/etc), just a Bluetooth transmitter, external storage, and being able to play audio/video seemlessly.

I'm read good things about the Shanling Q1 so I'm excited for the release of this product and it being reviewed.

Thanks in advance all,

~ Im2bz2p :)

Hi,

M3X is running full Android, so you can install video player like VLC and all is good to go.

I can't imagine that the resolution will be very good for a movie on this.

For portable movies, you can get a device like an Amazon Fire HD for pretty cheap, It takes MicroSD cards and you can add apps either directly from Amazon or by sideloading. I have the Fire 8 Pro and it was something like $80 (well they gave me a discount for trading in an old unit so it was even less). The latest generations of those get the job done. Unfortunately I think the Audio is weak at best on the Fire HD.

How would playback quality/sound compare to an LG phone with a quad DAC. I have one of the phones and enjoy it a a lot but exploring if a dedicated music player might sound better.
There no amp like shanling in LG phones😊I banking on this with 5ghz Wifi, good THD and long battery playability. Sort of compliments to my M6 Pro.😊

Owning M6 Pro and M8 I bet M3x would be a very good Dap.
I’m curious to read M3x impressions

👍

M3X was not released to international market and this price is quite low compared to our official pricing.

Would recommend to release at our official dealers and distributors.

Similar case as it was with M0 and older LG phones. They are using same chip, but implementation of it is different and on LG you are facing issues with Android sample rate conversion.
