Shanling M3X Portable Player - Our smallest Android Player

Neutron is the only 3rd party app by far that i know can do truly bit perfect on this device, UAPP resamples
Are you talking about USB out, or about normal playback? Majority of apps in our system should play with no resampling, at correct sampling rate of the original file. Of course, assuming that the app isn't doing some resampling on its own.

For how long have you had the R5? Does it sound better than M3X? Also, the output power of R5 is more than M3X, right? It can drive demanding iem/headphones easier?

Bass slam is good on R5s, was Better on R5 though but leaner and faster on s model. Don’t have m3x yet.

If you want small, the Sony A105 is the smallest full android DAP AFAIK. No balanced circuitry though.

Battery is weak when streaming, output is a lot weaker too. If Sony would have just used some stronger batteries, the form factor of 105 is great if you like small daps.

But I need something to push my little dac/amp and that would run a105 flat in no time. So m3x it is.

Yes, i prefer the TPU case then the "X" mark the spot. 😁
haha i can agree with that X mark thing. But the leather case looks really pretty.

I would like to know more about this. UAPP on M3X works flawlessly in bit-perfect mode.

But honestly i have no idea how the insides of UAPP works like if they resample so they do that on every device?

I have used the new poweramp standalone equalizer on another device and enabled it. It ia supposed to be system wide. When I play UAPP in bitperfect mode, the poweramp equalizer is still working and applies the equalizer to the playing UAPP even in bit-perfect mode. So I guess UAPP isn't really bit perfect. I think neutron reminds you of the active DSP and need to disable it before it plays in bitperfect

What "other device" are you testing this on? Does it support UAPP in direct mode? Have you tried this on the M3X to verify?

Sorry for the multiple questions but I want to understand your comment. :relaxed:

I might check this out for a transport, it’s supposed to have unbelievable power and resolution. Plus it’s rumored to make you sound like Freddy Mercury I think it has a quantum dac and cpu. Kind of pricey though, might have to give up eating sonic for a while

I assume there's some conversion process done while UAPP is playing DSD files (correct me if i'm wrong). No matter what DSD sample rate played it always shows like "Direct: 352.8kHz DSFDSD: 2.8MHz 1bit". Flac files played just fine

DSD is supported only in Native app and Neutron. UAPP and other will be converting it to PCM.

Maybe I am off base, but it seems that some here want a device to be bit perfect but also at the same time apply some form of EQ?
My little brain can't conceive of a unit without an analog EQ system that can be bit perfect in that scenario. I would be very surprised if UAPP was not bit perfect when EQ is off.

I am still considering the M3X; but on the HiBy R5 I am fairly sure you can enable native DSD with UAPP. Perhaps Shanling needs to neighbor with UAPP to enable that also. It was a special entry in settings specifically for a few models of HiBy; so the software clearly identified the HW and offered this capability.
