I received mine M2x on Tuesday. Very nice player. Its not just a replacement upgrade from my M0 that I was expecting as I feel I got a lot more for that extra $100.
Build quality is nice with solid buttons and the fit of the screen and overall presentation is remarkable. Good job Shanling.
The file drop feature over wifi is a nice convent touch and the sound quality is certainly meatier than the M0.

I have only one problem with it.

When using LDAC HQ to the ES100 It gets garbled especially if I touch the player. If I leave it alone its fine for a time but then it has moments of cutting in and out. On LDAC auto its a much better connection, not perfect but mostly stable as long as I don't move the player that much. The distance doesn't really matter.

I ruled out the ES100 and purchased the UP2 and its even worse with the UP2.

Is this just the nature of LDAC HQ or something firmware can solved. With the M0 I never had a drop out on LDAC.

LDAC HQ, alongside LHDC, are the codecs most sensitive to quality of connection.

But from your message, do I understand it right that when you used M0 as source for ES100, LDAC HQ was fine, but now M2X is showing worse performance? Since they have same Bluetooth implementation, M2X should be same.

Unfortunately it isn’t and much worse. Could this be a problem with my unit? Do you suggest I should exchange it.

Thanks

I would say codec change from LDAC to Aptx eliminating the problem to be proof the problem is likely with the LDAC requiring much higher quality wireless connection. I think people don't give enough credit to the folks who developed the Aptx to perform robustly.

I never had a problem like this with LDAC on the MO which works flawlessly . I also tested this outside In a park without my cell phone to eliminate any interference. If I sit on a bench perfectly still with no movement it works and once I move the sound is badly garbled.

I contacted Musicteck today and they are going to give me a exchange replacement.
I will report back if it’s just my unit, hopefully it is.

otherwise this player feels solid in the hand. Not too big like a cellphone and not too small to look like a novelty. The glass back is a nice touch and feels premium.

I would advice to try it with aptX/AAC. If the problems will continue, it might be some problem with antenna on your unit. If it will be alright, might be some software problem.

Thanks for the support. This is one of the many reasons why I like Shanling. It’s already being sent back for an exchange. If I encounter the same issue I will know that it must be a software bug that you guys have to resolve down the road and I can wait patiently using a different Bluetooth protocol.

I thought I should update this thread. Instead of getting a replacement I upgraded to an open box M5S which was a little bit more. I will say that I will miss the MX2 because in my opinion its a better looking DAP.
Now that I have been testing the M5S, it would seem that it also suffers a bit from the LDAC HQ mode however it is a little better but still not useable. I used LDAC auto and its working great and without any interruptions. I have a feeling this is normal with most DAPs except for the really small ones like the M0 and this could be due to the extra shielding in the bigger players.
Im not disappointed as long as it works in LDAC auto and maybe if I get a better receiver for my home stereo with a external antenna it will not be a problem.

MusicTeck has been very accommodating and I really enjoy their great customer service.

I have a question I cant find anywhere. What is LDAC auto? I figure that LDAC HQ uses the highest bit rate and standard uses a lower bit rate. I assume that auto will vary the bit rate depending on signal strength. Does it do this by varying the bit rate in real time when the signal is better or worse or does it do it once when it connects.

Surprisingly no one asked this in this whole 25-pages thread - does it support replaygain? Comparing the price to Hidizs AP80 (which does) I assume it does as well, but want to make sure.

I have another update for future reference. My M2x issues with bluetooth on HQ LDAC was due to what I assume to be a failing Netgear router or possibly a bad channel.
I had to replace my router because it would keep kicking me off over the last few days. I replaced the router with a new Netgear that can switch channels for the best reception if there is interference. I wasn't expecting anything to change with M5s which also has the same issue in HQ LDAC but to my surprise its completely fixed and stable.

I want to thank Shanling and Musictech for great customer service to insure my satisfaction as there was nothing wrong with my M2x. LDAC HQ is still a little sensitive to range and movements because its demanding for the bandwidth. If this happens check your wifi router for interference by changing the channel.
Im very pleased right now.

Thanks for sharing this experience. I will add it to my very long lists of things that are making Bluetooth so tricky.
