Shanling M0 - Smallest Hi-Res Portable Player - New Firmware V3.6
Jan 18, 2024 at 11:04 PM Post #6,406 of 6,418
Hi wanted to ask about my M0 - is it possible for it to be charging and be used as a digital transport at the same time? Because my unit is old and I think there is some normal degradation of battery.

Not likely to work, even if you would build a special double headed cable for this.

I haven't tried the a58, but I think the M0 is an excellent little player.
Indeed, they are not even in the same league! I'd pay the $90 difference but I also understand budgeting :v: Not to mention the excellent support you get from Shanling right here in the forums:wink:

indeed, it really is one of my favourites ever. I've had mine from release and I still use it every day.
It will be a sad day when it dies.
Having said that, I really fancy Shanling's new H2.

As for support, it was superceded by the Pro quite a while ago and they aren't updating the software any more, I wouldn't expect them to, but, on 18th january Mejoshua asked a question and Shanling answered within 1/2 an hour.

That seems like excellent support for an obsolete player.

(I also posted this in the watercooler thread, in the IEM section)

I think the Sansa Clip+ is probably my most used dap of all time, so I was pretty excited to try out the clip case for my Shanling M0 Pro, which I'm using a lot more than I thought I would. Anyway, it's a bit of a swing-and-a-miss imo. One of the advantages of the Clip+ and another device with a nice clip, the EarStudio ES100 MK2, was that you could easily leverage the clip open with one hand. Made it super easy to clip them on or off of whatever. With the M0 clip case, it is lacking a mechanical clip component and instead is just plastic you pry open. Whack. And it's very awkward to try and clip it onto stuff one-handed.

Will there be any more updates to this device or is it EOL now that m0 pro has been out.
I've had a song resume bug since the player has been out (playing via m3u playlist where after shut down, it would be stuck on a song and not the song before the player shut downs/reset)
The UI has always been laggy and the low fps with lots of tearing, this was never addressed in any of the firmwares.
I never posted to complain because the that bug was just a inconvenience and the lag I just lived with.

Anyways, back to my real problem: the volume is stuck on max with no way in changing it back.
I've been exclusively on BT headphones for a few years now, but my headphones broke and I tried switching back to wired and found this issue.
I've tried every volume setting, changing the volume thru the side swipe menu from the song playback screen, etc.
It's as if the crown has stop working, but I've actually encountered this before, unfortunately, i forgot what happened that fixed it, but I dont think this is the same issue.
I googled the issue and there's at least 1 reddit post with the same issue I'm having from skimming the first results.

Bonus issue: my bluetooth connection/playback gets choppy (like cd skipping) when I walk/jog (player in front jean pocket). Instantly normalizes when I'm stationary, or in a constant motion (ie, in car/train/biking). Happens to both sony wf-1000xm3 and 1000xm4s.

My guess would be that you have the headphone port in LO (line out) rather than PO mode - if so, change it and you’ll get your volume control back.

Hi,
Are you seriously asking if shanling will support this device ?
They already do not offer support for newly released devices, even if they sell for like 5k or more...
I think they do not even test their devices in-depth before releasing them...
So I would not get to much expectations about firmware update.

Concerning the problem with volume always set to max, check the output setting as Duncan advised. Should help I think.

Regards

M0 has been on market since 2018, so six years now. At this time we do not have any planned updates to the M0, but we might release some if we add more features to M0 Pro, as their system is very close.

For volume definitely check the Line-out mode.

Bluetooth antenna on M0 is a bit weaker, so it can have dropouts depending on the situation. Make sure the screen faces away from your body (that's where antenna is) and you can try different settings of LDAC or switching to AAC. Bluetooth stability also depends on your surroundings, if you are in big open space, it will always be less stable than indoors or in public transport.

The line-out mode setting fixed the issue. It really goes back to UI issues, since the text is cut off and the text does not scroll, I did not realize what I was looking at/for and totally missed the setting.
In regards to updates, I was speculating that the M0 pro and M0 would be close enough that the firmware could be ported over, thanks for confirming.
Like I mentioned, everything around the UI (the touch responsiveness) still needs a lot of polishing, and I'm really hoping that this will be addressed in the future and that if M0 pro gets update, it makes tis way downhill to M0.

As for the bluetooth connection, that really makes alot of sense now, I'll have to test it whenever my bt headphone comes back from repairs.
