Shanling M0 - Smallest Hi-Res Portable Player - New Firmware V3.6

Question for Shanling:

What file systems will be supported on the microSD / TF card?

I have been using exfat and fat32 without any problems.

@Shanling - I hope you plan on including a screen protector, and pre-apply it (as it is a big PITA to do it perfectly and without air bubbles)...

With M0 there will actually be no screen protector in the package. Samples we tried didn't fit nicely on the curved screen and the touch response felt slightly weird.

I just passed along the info from the email they sent me:

“We are contacting you with regards to your Shaling M0 pre-order purchase. The manufacturer has just confirmed that the release date will finally be delayed until the end of May.

This is because Shanling's tech team want to make sure, before shipping internationally, that there are no issues with the first batch that will be entirely destined for Chinese market. Please note that this is a delay at a global level not only for Europe or Spain.”

If it's anything like the R6 there will probably be differences to the firmware versions used.

Units for China and international market will be the same. But thanks to early release in China, we will be able to gather more user feedback and units shipped to international distributors will be already updated with newer firmware, fixing some bugs found over past few days.

I couldn't find any information about the type of touch screen it is using. Is it an OLED or TFT screen?

It's TFT screen.

Hi Frankie, I have a somewhat related question on touch response... You might remember when I tried the demo units at the SoCal CanJam, I struggled a bit when scrubbing within a track. Somebody previously on this thread mentioned about 200 hour audio books - I probably won't be at that extreme, but a lot of proggie goodness comes in 20 minute tracks and it's handy to be able to pinpoint the exact position in a track by rewinding, forward-winding, etc. I've seen scrubbing controls previously where the sensitivity/speed of the scrubbing varies with the vertical position of your finger on the screen. Any chance of getting something like that in a future firmware? :)

Can take a look into this, but not sure if we can change it to sucha fine adjustments.

do you know what the official price is when sold in retail store in china like shenzhen.

MSRP in China is set at 598 CNY, so around 95 USD.

Thanks, I rather make a purchase in China in the next few days, instead of getting it from taobao.

This is actually a really thoughtful approach. Have the users who will quickly receive the product get a chance with the product and get at least that initial bug fix firmware release out and tested before things have to be packaged up and shipped overseas for your foreign market. Especially if there turns out to be a hardware problem you'd only have to deal with correcting it for the people who could easily and quickly get their issues resolved and completely avoid the additional complications of customer thousands of miles away.

Thanks for the heads up, I will be in china in the next few days, I want to see the actual unit first. Does it have English selectable. what color did you get, I was thinking of the purple or red.

I got the red one with a red case. Yes you can choose English.

Any early thoughts on the device?

UI: Nice and smooth. IMO the scrolling speed may be a tad too fast. Mind you I haven't tried the library function (I use folder browsing exclusively)

Playback:
- I've experienced a short stutter (around one second) twice (out of a few hours of listening)
- No hiss with my Custom Art EI.xx (114db/mW)

USB DAC: Works with my MacBook 12" without a hitch.

USB out: Not sure what's wrong but I can't make it work consistently with my Centrance DACportable. Sometimes the M0 can detect the DAC but I get no sound out of it.

Perhaps a short observation on the sound sig :) Warmish? Or more neutral like M3s? How’s the stage and layering?
