Hi, speaking of H7, you mentioned that the battery is the standard 18650. Is it the same with H5? Can it be replaced?

H5 is not using 18650 batteries. It comes with a custom Li-ion battery, comparable to the ones used in our Android players.
It can be replaced by skilled technician, if the battery is purchased through one of our distributors.

You mentioned that volume wheel is analog, so it means the volume can't be controlled from phone?
The volume of H5 can be controlled only directly on the H5. Of course, some apps can also apply their own volume control on the digital side. in which case you can partially control volume on the phone side.

Incredible sound, full-bodied, tremendously musical, euphonic...

This description that I make is playing the files from the micro sd and with the Monarch mk2 iems….

SPEAKING OF memory, possibly I like it more than the H7....I repeat... I'm talking about my memories of when I had the H7... I don't remember it being so musical and so consistent with my preferences...

this little gadget is worth everything it costs

best regards

The question that I have is fairly simple: Can I use an iPhone plus this (connecting via bluetooth, I assume) as a full function audio player, with the H5 holding the music (1TB micro SD for example) and doing all the DAC+AMP work, sitting in my pocket, while I control it completely via the iPhone? Including playlists, music selection, fwd/skip/rewind/etc.?

Yes, that's why this thing kicks ass (in theory) Mine is here Monday. Ill do a video review within a week or two.

Yes, it connects over Bluetooth to our Eddict Player app and it gives you access to all the files on MicroSD card you have in the H5.

Did a pretty intensive listening session tonight with H5, ifI Go Blu & Mojo, and iMac headphone jack (lol), all the time using Focal Utopia for listening.

I do prefer the H5 to the iMac headphone jack, the spatial presentation is slightly more involving and fuller sounding, it's not a huge difference but it's there.

Taking the fight to Mojo 2 which I wanted the H5 to replace ideally given it's sd card functionality, volume wheel and bluetooth, vs Mojo 2s utterly archaic and to me annoying design (volume orbs, really lol?) was a tad unfair. Long story short, the Mojo 2 sounds a lot better. Much better seperation, detail, it has a wow factor I actually forgot about...Vocals in particular sounded noticably different, much more natural, analogue and I daresay detailed on Mojo 2. How exactly I don't know, but it's the way I heard it, tried many tracks from Lana Del Rey/Aurora to confirm. I'll elaborate in my video review but as it stands for now Mojo 2 is quite a few classes above H5 in sound (as it should be, given the price and features on offer imo). Mojo 2 replacement still needed.

Then iFi Go blu. Wired in, both playing the same audio files, I've got to give the nod to the Go Blu. i just enjoyed it's presentation more. It felt more involving, the way it placed vocals in the mix I enjoyed more, vocals had any harshness smoothed out and again sounded more analogue and pleasing. I'll try some electronic music tomorrow to complete the comparison.

For now

Mojo 2 >>>> iFi Go Blu wired >> H5 Wired > iMac headphone jack> Go Blu bluetooth

Given the size of the H5 I am a tad disappointed. But it does have a lot of features so I'm sure some people will find a place for it. Even though I prefer the go blu some may prefer h5, but from a technical standpoint there isn't much in it between the untis, I doubt either measure particularly well from an objective standpoint, certainly not compared to Mojo 2. And with the price and size of iFi Go blu, I suspect most will just get that instead if they have the good fortune to try both before buying.

Man, I'd just use this as a DAP.
