H5 Poster.jpg

At Shanling, we continue to expand our new line of advanced portable DAC/AMPs. Following the release of the high-end H7 model, today we are announcing a lower-positioned H5 model.

Bit more compact and lighter for easier carry, but packed with the same great features. The audio circuit of H5 was inspired by our favourite M6 Ultra and it will provide you with the nicely warm and smooth sound.

H5 is now shipping to Shanling distributors
MSRP 369 USD

Is there eq on the device?

I don’t understand why the high output impedance on its head outs? This will make my sensitive IEMS bright (like Andromeda).. this is utterly nonsensical, all portable sources released in the last few years have OI from 0 to 2, really don’t get what’s happened here perhaps I’m misunderstanding something

I'm a bit surprised at the high output impedance: "Higher output impedance (4.7 Ohm for 3.5mm // 6.6 Ohm for 4.4mm)".

Wouldn't this potentially result in lesser compatability with low impedance IEM's? For example, Empire Ears Odin has impedance of 3 Ohms @ 1kHz, and if you believe in the "rule of 8's" whereby headphone impedance ideally should be 8X the output impedance of the source, this is WAY off the mark.

Absolutely, I’m completely baffled with what Shanling is trying to achieve here, perhaps I’m misunderstanding or something is lost in translation

Does it have compatibility with switch (uac 1.0)?

Yes, it has UAC1.0 mode

@Shanling So there's not Media Playback controls like Skip track etc... ON the Device? I have to Pull out my Phone

You can do simple playback control directly on the device, using the two wheels.

Is there eq on the device?

No EQ on the device.

According to our audio engineers, it's needed for the TPA6120A2 based amplifier. We understand it might be not ideal pairing with certain IEMs with problematic impedance curves, but others might profit from this and for most it will have no impact on.

This isn't a DAP, the display is there to serve some basic info functions and the music sd card playback is a bonus, but not a full blow feature - that's fine. This is primarily a portable dac amp. I just wish we would stop getting re-hashes again and again for the same thing, and manufacturers to embrace bit more advanced features like EQ/DSP - it's 2023, we have AI that can take my job but digital audio hardware hasn't changed much last 15 years.

Saying that, I got kinda excited when I saw this dinky little Shanling, until I read about the output impedance that is.. as is I can't really use this with most of my IEMs like Andromeda and Softears RSV - they will be too bright. I do like Shanling house sound, imo it's more refined than most other Chifi gear like Fiios and Cayins.

This is mainly DAC/AMP, small screen with two lines is all it needs for basic information and access to settings.
You can look at our M3 Ultra or M6 Ultra if you want the player with nice modern screen.

Seems like it uses the same Texas Instruments TPA amp as my beloved sony DMP-Z1

I've listened to M3 Ultra and M7 players and sound of which one of them is closer to H5?
