Can this unit be used for Ripping CD's?
And all upsampling must be over I2S vice USB? is that for PCM only while all to DSD works over USB/I2S

. . . break-in?
. . . burn-in?
. . . a DAC change?
. . . psychoacoustic shenanigans?
. . . all of the above?

The ET3 has really "opened up" and is sounding REALLY good! Seemingly very different--and for the better--from yesterday/earlier today.
???

Also, Bluetooth is now working! LDAC HQ and aptX HD sound impressive.

I just received my ET3 from MusicTeck and as others have said this is a very nice well built compact unit. I was able to get the CD player to work immediately and right out of the box it sounded good. As I spend more time with it I will be better informed on it's sonic characteristics, but so far soooo good. By contrast the streamer was a challenge as I wrongfully anticipated an easy set up where I pick my music streaming service and be done with it. I haven't been on Head-FI for a while so I decided to browse the forums and came across this section. Reading through most of the comments reminded me why this is such a great source of information. Other good sources were Best Friends, and MusicTeck, the U.S. distributor for Shanling.

MusicTeck provided this easy set up guide which I wanted to pass on. If it's redundant ignore.
I'm using my Samsung Note 9 as a control device and mconnect lite as my music player where their only choice of music services is Tidal or Qobuz. I have an account with Tidal. Also, for each of the following steps I used the Shanling CD Player Advanced User Manual.

1. Connect the ET3 to your WIFI.
2. Turn on DLNA in the ET3 WIFI menu.
3. I downloaded mconnect lite.
4. In mconnect go to the "Play To" section and select Shanling ET3.
5. In mconnect go to the "Browser" section and select Tidal or Qobuz.
6. Log in to your Tidal or Qobuz account.
7. Let the music streaming begin.

Mconnect is the only app that works for DLNA, bubbleupnp hardly works at all. Mconnect has a problem though, the gapless doesn't work. Even the latest update 1.6 didn't bring anything about it.
The ET3, currently, should be considered an excellent CD and high-resolution file player, as a streamer we are not there yet and I don't know if the problems will ever be solved.

No CD ripping function on ET3.

USB do not offer upsampling, but it's available for all other outputs, up to limits of their technology.
You can run PCM or DSD through the upsampling/downsampling.

Upsampling not available over USB.

Gonna need to get myself an I2S Dac and or a Holo Red whenever that becomes available! (rumor is soon, I got some good news from Kitsune)! This piece of kit alone is extremely useful for upsampling data stream and as a wifi component to the DDC that's also a CD player :D.

Can I use a mixed media HDD for USB input & subsequent upsampling as long as all music is contained within a single folder?

Yes, the ET-3 does have wonderful possibilities for a neat little package and at an attractive price point.

I assume that as long as you point the music scan in the Eddict Player to the right directory, you can scan and build a music library. Not tried a mixed media HDD yet but I assume the music scan will pick up the right files anyway. :)

With Eddict Player, it will simply scan for all audio files on the drive and get them to library.

Got my new ET3 yesterday. Firmware 1.6. I am using it just as a CD transport connected via toslink to my Chord Hugo TT2. It is connected to my wifi.
Great sound and nice looking!
Does anyone know if it is possible to show art and metadata of the CD that is playing?
