Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

Still very much enjoying the ET3 as an all-in-one transport.

I have two suggestions that coud be classed as 'in the future that would be great'.

1) Ugrading the airplay support to airplay 2 as is sorts out latency and stability issues. I've done this on linux based systems by updating sharepoint sync and it's really good.

2) When using the Eddict player app via synclink it would be more time efficient to be able to add artwork for and entire album (or folder) instead of track by track, is that something that is foreseable?

Keep up the good work!

1) We asked our software team about upgrade to Airplay 2 multiple times, but at this time they don't seem to see this as priority.

2) Are you talking about downloading the album cover from the device over bluetooth or the automatic Album art search by the app over wi-fi?

Thanks for the reply.

I use the Eddict player purely as a remote control (via sync link) for files stored on a usb drive (sounds better than streaming via upnp/dlna). I can download artwork via the album art search option for one track as it playing but I can’t see a way of adding artwork for the entire album. Artwork displays on the ET3 display, I’m talking about adding artwork to the Eddict app. Perhaps I’m missing something?

I would add one thing, Mconnect with gapless works perfectly using Wiim mini as a renderer. It's the only thing keeping me from removing the Wiim mini from my main system. If a 90 euro streamer can do it without problems, I'm sure the excellent ET3 can do it too.
Had a discussion about this with our head software engineer this morning.

He recommends, if you want to use DLNA, you should use the Eddict Player app. But he promised the software team will have a look at the other DLNA apps in the future and will see if it can be adjusted further.

Thanks for the reply. I would happily only use Eddict player if it were compatible with Qobuz and Tidal. Unfortunately it is not and therefore I am forced to use Mconnect. I listen to music mainly with these two streaming services, like many I imagine. It would be great if they were implemented
(maybe even Amazon music) in the official app.
I have a little suggestion for a future firmware release. It would be convenient if, once the display was turned off with the remote control, it would automatically turn back on for 20-30 seconds when you press any button on the device, without having to use the remote control again.

I wonder if anyone here can help.
Just got my Shanling ET3 and custom I2S cable to work with my Topping D90SE DAC. Thought I have got the settings on my DAC correctly but there is just no sound. The only time I 'hear something' is when I change the SRC settings and I hear just a split second of audio. The DAC does show that there is data (PCM or DSD) going in.
Is there anything I have not set correctly?
Appreciate any help please. Thank you.

There are settings for I2S on both ET3 and the DAC, so please make sure that you have it set correctly for your custom cable.

Have you tried how it behaves if you used a standard HDMi cable?

Big shout out to Wilson of Jaben Singapore for making it possible for me to try out the ET3. Setting up was fine. There was so guess work because the wording used in the manual and the menu on the ET3 do not always align. But other than that it’s fine.

@Shanling, the FW I have on this machine is v 1.3. I went to the menu to update via wifi. But when I press enter, I get a message that the U disc is not found, which is exactly the same error message I get when try to update via local update. So, something is wrong, isn’t it?

Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Are you trying to update it to V1.4 or V1.5 with the USB drive?

Nope. I was trying OTA... Or are you telling me that under v 1.3, OTA does not work. cos I get the same error message of "U disk not found".

Anyway, I will manually download and update the FW via USB drive now.

You must connect a USB flash drive (or hdd or ssd) to do the OTA update, otherwise the ET3 won't know where to download it.

Anyway, have updated FW to v 1.5 using local update route. Will try the OTA route another time.

My initial impressions of the CD player: I am using the I2S connection from the ET3 to the Holo Spring 3 KTE, SRC to 512 DSD. My initial impressions are it is very much the Shanling house sound. So, if you enjoy the M9+, the M30, M8 as much as I do, then this is something you will enjoy! As I was saying to Wilson of Jaben earlier: with the Shanling house sound, there is a vinyl like rendering of the CD being played. :)

I have been also trying out the DLNA playback on QQMusic into the ET3 (in QQ Music it is known as QPlay). The ET3 will also effortlessly upsample it up to 512 DSD if you leave the setting as is.

That would be local update, no? I have done this with the M30. So I am familiar with local update vs OTA via wifi.
