Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

NO, the ET3 does not have an internal mass storage, it needs to copy the update to an external mass storage, any USB flash drive will be fine.
That is local update via USB drive. I was trying OTA update via wifi. :) Thanks for your explanation. Let’s await @Shanling ‘s suggestion in respect of the latter: OTA via wifi.

No, I'm talking about the update via OTA. You have to connect a USB flash drive to the device before updating and then start the OTA update via wifi, it doesn't seem difficult to me. If ET3 tells you when you start the OTA update that it can't find the Udisk there must be a reason, don't you think?

Yes, this is correct, there must be USB drive inserted into the ET3 (and have some empty space), for the OTA firmware to be downloaded.

Added this now to the Firmware instructions, to make it more clear.

Thanks @Shanling . That's the explanation I'm looking for. In your daps and m30, when you reference OTA, it means over the air wifi updates. Hence, I was confused.

So, will it ever be implemented: OTA FW updates like your DAPs and M30?

@Shanling On the ET3, purely on the sound quality, please send kudos to the team. It retains the best of the Shanling house sound. I am enjoying my CDs with a very different appreciation with the combination of the upsampling to DSD 512 via the I2S connection to the Holo Spring 3 KTE and of course the wonderful Shanling house sound, of which I am a big fan. Certainly sounds like you have a winner here!

I am slowly working my way through the various options/connections. But very promising start. :)

I doubt it is possible since there is no ROM storage in the device unlike a DAP.
Makes sense. In which case, the menu then needs to reflect that. :)

Exact. It doesn't seem complicated to me to connect a USB flash drive to the ET3 and easily do the OTA update via WiFi. Because the ET3 *has* the OTA update, I have done two since I have this device and always via wifi. There's a bit of confusion here today.

Well to be fair, if the manual doesn't tell you to insert a usb drive, it's not surprising people get confused. Good to hear shanling are updating the instructions.
I went for a Jay's Audio transport eventually but wish Shanling every success with this innovative product. Would be nice to see more online attention. All the reviews seem to be about the Urd, which I reckon is an inferior product with a very niche use case.

When you try to update without a USB drive, you get a warning from the device you're using that it can't find the udisk. Already here you should have a suspicion. Then, when you are told over and over again by those who have been using it for months and even by the manufacturer of the device...
Among other things, it is a device that invites you to keep a USB drive connected (I have a 2TB SSD) given the ease with which you can navigate within it thanks to the companion app.

I agree, they could do more. I took it on faith, given Shanling's long experience with CD players. I took a look at Schiit's website, it doesn't seem to have anything extraordinary, on the contrary. For example it does not have I2S output. And it costs almost double. The ET3 honestly sounds really good and has an astonishing build quality.
There is a little something to do regarding the DLNA and then it would become an unbeatable machine in terms of quality/price ratio.

Today is the first few hours with the ET3. Courtesy of Jaben Singapore. Just to have it for demo for a while to explore the options. I took it on the faith of having other Shanling products like the modular M30 and its DAPs.

It is good that they kept it true to the Shanling house sound. Will slowly work my way through the various options that the ET3 has to offer. :)

ET3 offers OTA update over Wi-Fi, just some USB drive needs to be connected, as ET3 doesn't have internal memory big enough for the firmware file.
On our Android DAPs and M30, they have internal memory for this file to be downloaded.

We are sorry for any confusion and will adjust it in the instructions.

(Also, Manual update is always faster and my personal recommendation for updating the device)

Shanling, can you please tell me an online store where I can purchase your L8 I2S cable? I can't find it, thanks.

I would recommend checking with your local Shanling distributor, they can order the L8 cable for you.

Hi Shanling, would be grateful if you could look into adding squeezelite functionality to the ET3, thanks

I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with this, what that would be for?
