100+ Head-Fier
I have tried the following planars: T+A solitare P on a HA 200 amp, meze elite, rosson rad 0 and have own/owned the following planars abyss 1266 phi tc, diana v2, lcd 24, lcd 4, solitare p-se, hifiman he6sev1. Out the three I tried I did not walk away thinking I had to have them or was particularly wowed. Out of the ones I own/owned, the closest to being happy with a planar are the 2 I have left, the lcd 24 and lcd 4 using the audeze king amp and schitt folkvangr, but they are next on the chop block if I feel like selling anything next. I have not tried planar iems yet.No need to apologise, great write-up.
I find it easy to believe that a cold IEM would sound off and need a bit of time to warm up so I agree with that more than burn in.
You don't like planar's, IEM's or Headphones? I happened to be reading your review while listening to my Oppo PM-3 and thinking, I bet Omega1990 hasn't tried these.
I didn't see what tips you are using on your ie900?
So far my feelings toward planars is really a preference thing and I respect anyone who finds satisfaction with them as I do acknowledge they achieve exceptional technical performance. From what I've read I still wanna try susvara, the final d8000, and the new yamaha planar could be worth a try. Still gotta get a zmf planar the caldera as I've never been dissapointed with their dynamics!
Also I used the silicon stock tips for all my iems. I'm not a iem aficionado, so I have really no experience with all the variety of tips that are out there.
Totally understandable. With my post being already so long I do agree the cables pick up outside taps and movement like a doctors stethoscope. However, it did not ruin the experience for me.The sennheiser IEM’s are severely downgraded in my book for not using a standard iem cable connection. Love the sound of the ie900, but the cable connection is why I won’t keep them long term.
