Sorry (@fertb1978) to add another possibility:
7. Item being a fake? I do have absolutely no idea whether fake IE 900‘s exist at all. Of course, I searched this thread for the word ”fake“, not conclusive.

I bought them from a member of this forum, a person who seems trustworthy from his other posts and sales on this forum. With the purchase invoice and the sound I don't think they are fake, incredible soundstage, separation, etc... everything good is here, but they have distortion/saturation. It is evident having compared them with the fh7.

Try this song~ soundstage width, depth, treble extension, airiness with the instruments, everything is amazing here with the IE900. Something's very wrong if you hear any flaws.

And for bass + soundstage, nothing better than this.

Did the price go up or am I not remembering things correctly?
I think the MSRP went up but you still can find several dealers selling at the previous retail price.

thanks, I've listened to it (it's not the kind of music I usually listen to)
In general it sounds very good, great scene and details but when the double bass joins the piano and other instruments it sounds a bit dirty.
For example in bullet in your head from rage against the machine, the hit of the bass drum with the bass becomes annoying.

Does your FH7 sound better? Highly suspect your gear can't give the IE900 the power it demands. Volume isn't = to being driven properly.

yes, without a doubt the fh7 sound better (at least it is a broader and cleaner sound)
I also think that the btr5 may not be the most appropriate to power the ie900, I only get them to get a wide sound full of detail at a very high volume

After waiting 6 months for availability, I finally got my pair yesterday!! Of course, I had to give 'em a listen first for 10-15 minutes. Two hours later, I was still listening and mostly smiling. They sound remarkably good straight out of the box. I did notice substantial boost in the sub-bass, a lack of airiness, and small soundstage.

I have an mSD card that starts with 10 hours of pink noise then a 100 hour semi-random playlist of pop/rock, jazz, and classical. We'll see how things unfold in a few days. Being a single DD, I expect there will be a number of improvements.

Yeah, the tips for useless for me. I have AE07 tips on them now. There will be a lot tip rolling once burn-in is completed on Wed.

As I expected (based on IE300), the cable is highly microphonic. I have the cheapest Plussound on my IE300 which is serving me well. @soundblast75 -- Are you still liking the X6 cable you got a couple of months ago? What are the strengths/weaknesses??

The IE900s look like a keeper!!

Definitely sounds off - while IE900 can have better synergy with other sources, I still feel treble and overall clarity/detail should come through. I've tried mine with a number of sources, all of which give me the IE900 signature, but with varying degrees of synergy. A hallmark of IE900 is its treble, if you aren't hearing that, it seems something is wrong for sure.

That said, I've no experience with btr5 so it might be an outlier.

@Scuba Devils - how does the decay and reverb of the IE900 compare with that of the Zen Pro? I'm finding Zen Pro's decay to be a bit too quick for my preference. Thanks

I'd have to a/b with that in mind, not something I've ever listened out for!

I looked at the bottom of the IE900 case. It says "Made in Germany." Does that apply to the monitors? Or is it just the case itself that is made in Germany??
The "Made in..." label refers to the final assembly location. It's a little more complex than that but, a certain percentage of components and assembly must take place in Germany to qualify for the "Made in Germany" label. IE 900 housings are still made in Germany.

Assembly has since shifted to Ireland but you could pick two random sets of IE 900 from the two different assembly locations, listen to them blindly, and not be able to tell them apart, 10,000 out of 10,000 times.

Mine say made in Germany on the case and also the stamp on the quality certificate is from Germany, but they were made on the 8th of Feb which is after when I read assembly had been moved to Ireland. Does this mean they were made in Germany or Ireland?
