Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

To those using the ie800 on an iphone 7+, or any iphone, what's the usual listening level you do? ie800 seems harder to drive a bit than my previous iems, i'm at around 60% volume level in our office and have to go higher when using it outside... thanks in advance :)

Depends a bit on the player and its settings, but with jetAudio and its preamp setting at 0 db, in average I have volume on my iPhone 6S+ set to app. 60..70%.

^thanks for that, appreciate it a lot :) was thinking if maybe there's something wrong with my hearing since i'm needing to increase the volume by a bit than i'm accustomed to. Except for needing the higher volume though, SQ is all smooth and great, actually wondering why it took me a long time to audition them since the first time i put them in my ears i was sure it was my type of sound and will surely get it. A worthy upgrade to my TF10 and UM3x RC, which suddenly sounded dull when i listened to them just now as i was comparing the volume levels. A bit biased since i'm still in the honeymoon stage with the ie800 and really love it hehe... But i'm sure the TF10 will have a place in my gear lineup, its a classic after all :)

The sad part is that now most headphones feel sad and dull - ie800 makes even life catch more color - everything is amazingly detailed through them - I heard professional speakers and headphones much more expensive that weren't as detailed.. This is what is so amazing about ie800 - it provides more detail than hd800 sometimes - like it renders the detail better.

Really?! 800 is more detailed than hd600, ever better than hd800?!

I am not joking about this one.

Got many song examples you can test it with.

Ie800 has a certain FR that can bring some details and instrument textures out that are not present on either HD800 or HD600.. No idea why this happens. The songs it happens with are rather complex, rock and electronic, there are sound patterns that just aren't recovered by anything else - I got no idea why or how.

You also need a good DAC//AMP like FiiO x5ii or better.

Hd800 + expensive AMPs do actually recover the details, but nothing cheaper than HDVD800 from what I tested so far. Maybe I missed one or another amp that might be able to recover those fine textures. HDVD800 + HD800 actually does recover everything but it's bloody expensive and 3/4 of the time I test HD800 is not with HDVD800 so I forgot that expensive amps are actually able to recover those details

Understand. So I have no intent to invest to HD800. Then DAC, amp., then there is no end!

HD800S it worth it's money though. It's another story when you factor the new HD800S.

You just need HD800S + HDVD 800. That would be it.

But for portable usage HD800S + Chord Hugo was quite brilliant - still not as cheap as ie800 + FiiO X5 which provides a really nice sound.

Is HDVD800 good enough? I saw people said tube amplifiers were better for HD800. Personally, I like HD600 from tube amplifiers.
Anyway, though afordable, I have no much passion on these high end products right now. Hifi is a abyss. Moreover, more high end, more little price–performance ratio.

Any further news on the rumored IE800S?

I saw that Amazon was selling the IE800 for $669, and I almost bought one. But I thought I should check this thread to see if there was any news or better deals, and I read about the pending IE800S.

What is the consensus on improvements everyone here would like to see/hear?

There's no ie800S. People have been making up their own fantasy about a replacement to the ie800 for over a year now.

Amazon's price when one looks at the listing has gone up to $700.

If one likes the sound of the HD800, will one also like the sound of the IE800?

They are different, why not read some reviews of the ie800 to get a sense of how it sounds?

I have. I get the sense they are right up my alley. Some mention the high frequencies are sometimes sibilant, just as some who have so commented on the HD800. I've listened to the HD800 for many hours and felt the 6K spike was not an issue for me on most recordings.

ie800 treble  is not as spikey as hd800, you probably won't have problems with ie800

It a slightly v shaped iem, slightly warm which is high on clarity, very detailed although not as full sounding as other iems in this price, very airy and energetic, due to extended treble with very good imaging, bass that is textured and sufficiently fast for a dynamic but not very deep, that sums up ie800.
