hi very interesting i dont find the hd800 bright at all infact ive come from agk k702 which i love and are slightly bright i have a very flat certificate just arrived which concludes what my ears where telling me i cant post it for some reason ?

I have received my certificate from a second hand HD800 bought lately.
This is a N°358XX and it free of spike at 6k,almost flate everywhere.
 
Nevertheless,i have a sibilance issues with cymbals. :/

i've just gotten my "hd 800" but it's matte black
it also came with 2nd cable (XLR-4)
On the headband it says HD 800
on the box it says HD 800 as well
 
anyone know if mine is fake?

and it came with a little sennheiser usb flash driver, the name of the driver says "HD800S"
 
i bought it on amazon for 950 USD

No worries, all HD800S have HD800 on headband. There is nothing like matte black HD800, just silver HD800 and black HD800S. As yours are black and came with second XLR cable, you have HD800S model.

so there's a high chance that someone put HD800S in a HD800 box and sold it as HD800?

Congrats. You have gotten a HD 800 S it seems.
 
But to be 100% sure, look inside the driver and see if it has the anti-resonator.

I received mine even with HD800 manual, not the updated one which includes both models.

I did take the cushion off, it does have the extra circle anti resonator in it
 
I'm very confused though, I've tried using the authentication method  (using the hologram on the box) but it failed
even if it succeeded, the actual product does not match the box... 
my serial number is 04###
 
are there any known cases of fake hd 800/hd 800s? i'm not sure if this is fake or not still (the sound is amazing but I don't have another hd 800 to test the quality

If you bought it from an authorized Sennheiser dealer, then I doubt it's fake. But perhaps try ask Sennheiser if your HD 800 / HD 800 S is fake.

Sorry to necro this thread but I just got my FR graph in the mail serial #45xxx.

I believe I have scored the ultimate HD800... 6khz +5db!

Looking closely it appears my set has a similar 6khz treble peak to others but seems to be about 1-2db lower than most in the 3-4k range, and that dip pushes up the whole graph.

Here's mine, a slight dip on the 8k compared to others in the 30XXX's... BTW, seems everything after 30XXX have no 6k peak
