Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

There is a 1.4m/3.5mm plug cable from Sennheiser, that is/was intended to be sold in a combo with the Apogee Groove. So they don't show it under the 'plain' model listings.

The part is listed as Sennheiser Article No. 570679

It shows up as one of the available parts under these listings:
https://spares.sennheiser.com/en-us/catalog/product/508526-hd-660-s-apogee
(shows the standard 3m/6.35mm with 6.35/3.5mm adapter and the 3m/4.4mm cables, as well as the 1.4m/3.5mm to go with the Apogee Groove)

https://spares.sennheiser.com/en-us/catalog/product/506971-hd-650-groove
(shows only the 1.4m/3.5mm plug cable under this listing, you have to look at the regular HD 650 listings to see the standard long cable)

Here is the direct link for that particular cable:
https://spares.sennheiser.com/en-us/catalog/sparepart/570679

Connecting cable with 3.5mm plug, 1.40m

That Amazon listing from your link says it's a 1.4m cable, but Amazon doesn't show 570679 as the part number. If your packaging has that article number, it should be a genuine Sennheiser part. I can't imagine anyone bothering 'faking' that exact length when the original part isn't expensive.

Hope that helps! I searched for all of the factory cable options & bookmarked the links when I got my HD 58X, just in case I ever needed/wanted a length or connector other than what it shipped with, but then I got the HD 660S and the HD 600, so I ended up with a few cable options that way!

(What good are extra cables sitting around when you can have other Senn headphones attached to them all? :) hahaha!)
If you're still looking for this short cable, it's here: https://us.sennheiser-hearing.com/c...nd-accessories/products/cable-hd-650-apogee-1

And how does that help the 99% who could never do so anyway? I certainly could learn nothing from this persons experience, there are no possible comparisons to draw. I find it yucky looking at wealthy people and their toys. Sour grapes? Likely, but still. I would rather watch a video of somebody who buys a $1000 system. And I acknowledge that compared to many people on this planet, they would be able to look at what I have and consider me rich.

Thing about this guy, he was an audio hobbyist like most of us here, before he ever got wealthy. So he got to live his dream by buying the pinnacle purchase possible in this hobby, and decided to share his experience with us fellow hobbyists. I get the feeling from his story that he was being generous, giving back, and not just flexing his gear. This was no episode of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous."

Agree. It’s a little tough to swallow. And I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t feel a little envious. But, the sincerity came through in his post. I’m grateful that he shared his experience (and provided those playlists).

If it’s any consolation, his taste in music IS questionable. 😉

How do I downvote a post on Head-Fi...

Anyway, thought I'd share something. I recently got a rig for measuring headphones, and was able to measure 4x Sennheiser headphones using the exact same set of pads, to rule out pad wear as a differentiator. HD 58X, HD 600, HD 6XX, and HD 660S.

Aligned @ 500Hz for easier comparison of multiple cans. dB normalization more accurate to how you are likely to hear them.

I don't follow this lore, but vaguely recall some speculation that HD 660S and 58X use the same driver. I think if you compare their graphs individually, they share some similarities that seem consistent with that speculation.

ESPECIALLY once you dampen the rear of the driver on the 58X, like I did with a teabag mod.

What brand of tea for the teabag mod? XD

It's amazing how close the 58X and 6XX are tracking each other. The 58X really are the best value atm from Senns other than the 560s.

Relatively speaking the Senns have a similar frequency response and while I considered the HD58X a very capable headphone and giives the HD660S a run for its money close side by side comparisons on a good system show the 660S driver is a more sophisticated and superior design, not night and day but delicate harmonics are better preserved at volume and the 500 driver will start produce unwanted artifacts when driven hard or called upon reproducing complex musical passages but for most I wholly agree the HD58X is the best value and would be the most reasonable choice if price/performance was a concern.

"Overall the 600 series drivers and and baffle most likely have higher quality and machined parts, more attention given to quality control and driver matching. The 660 driver/baffle, ported to be the 700 driver, has obviously been given a make over.
Depending on ones ancillary equipment the additional costs for a 660 may be unwarranted, I'm running mine off a Bryston BHA-1 and sources are a Bryston BCD-1 and a Cambridge Audio CXN V2 and I'm easily able to hear the qualitative differences, placing the 58X at mid-fi. The 660, for me, really do have that little bit extra justifying their higher entry."

That is a nice take on things, and I mean that truly. Nobody should ever lose sight of the fact that just because people have money that they can still be very nice, genuine people so point well taken.

NICE MAN! Impressions?
Well I only heard them for a while then I’m letting them burn some music and pink noise for some hours. My usual beliefs…

But for now I’m amazed for the so natural and effortless sound they produce. I honestly thought the bass was over what I was expecting but will let them play and listen more in a while. Still have hd600 on carrier maybe receive that tomorrow and make my comparisons…

I compared them to focal bathys usb dac mode and beside having more low end and treble, bathys do a great job for what they are… that raised frequencies help on a wireless set but they punch pretty awesome detail. But man how I missed an open set… and the mids floating… beautiful!

660s bass drops like a stone below about 80hZ. Not sure how that graph gave what isn’t there.
