Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Honestly, I am so effing tired of seeing him all over this place, every time I log in. Just picture of his stupid face, only one pic with in-ears. Otherwise he's not wearing any headphones. Hey everyone - buy our headphones - because - because - hey - look - an ugly guy all over your headphone group. Sennheiser paid money for these ads?

Sometimes you really do have to wonder who signed-off on this marketing program. At least he's not sporting a man-bun. "Listen to the inner voice." When did audio advertising start to ask us to transcend our daily routine in hopes of true self-enlightenment?

I'm not normally a hostile person, but that looks like a fighting stare?

The sound is a lot like the HD650 but also differs. It is a very balanced and tonally ‘correct’ headphone. One of the happy few in this price bracket.
It differs with the HD650 in areas other than the tonal balance which is more similar than not.
Bass on the HD660S is noticeably ‘tighter’ and better defined. The HD650 can be slightly ‘soft/wooly-ish/warm’ compared to the HD660S. Mids are slightly cleaner and realistic sounding with ever so slightly less ‘clarity’ perhaps.
Mids sound a little cleaner and more ‘dynamic’ and perhaps a bit ‘cleaner’.
One could say the slight ‘veil’ some talk about when discussing the HD650 is not present here. Others may say it has a ‘blacker’ background.
Treble is not elevated at all and also not subdued but in the correct amount. I would not say it is much ‘better’ than that of the HD650 but with the ‘improved’ dynamics it would be easy to conclude the highs are maybe slightly crisper.
Think a HD650 with a cleaner and more ‘dynamic’ sound. A less ‘romantic’ HD650 perhaps. A bit fresher/modern version of the HD650.

the measurements are impressive

Can a 660 owner comment on sub-bass, or lack thereof? EDM is unsatisfying with the HD600, so this is the improvement many electronica fans are looking for.

IMO, for such genres, one needs a basshead level can. Not to say you cannot listen with audiophile grade cans as a reference, but cheap + subbass + audiophile grade, pick 2. Audiophile level + sub-bass in the 500$ and below seems to go with Fostex/EMU/Denon line. XB1k there are few on ebay at 250-300US (xb500/700 under 99US) with free shipping from Japan. The JVC SZ. V-Moda m100/ Yamaha mt220. Unless you can go with a Z1R/Eikon etc.I cannot see such an open can like 660S being the best for EDM/DANCE/HIP HOP. I say best, not incapable of playing. For Retro SYnthwave, EDM, 90s Dance/HipHop, I always go with my xb1k/SZ1k/dt770.80. Open cans (except dt660.32) for classical, jazz, acoustic etc etc.
But everyone is different. :D

Come on guys, people are wanting to hear from those that have and are listening to a real pair of hd660s. We can all read the few reviews out there and speculate ourselves.

Which EDM track is your reference? I am willing to buy it from Amazon.

You dont use streaming services?

If you can stream please check "gemini" by Oliver Smith, "U" by Grum.... If it can rumble with these 2 tracks a lillte bit i think will be happy. They can punch on the hd600 but there is not much rumble

Hmmm....seems thus far like the 660S and 650 are too similar to spend another $500. I mean, one could probably change the sound at least as significantly by taking the foam covering off the 650 drivers. Maybe it's just me, but it seems a lot of money to spend just for a slightly different 650. If you don't have a 600 or 650, perhaps this is the one to get, if it matches your tastes and preferences.

...Or maybe alittle easier to drive with portable devices due to the lower impedance ?

Yes, that's a good point. So for that type of application, it could be considered an upgrade from, say, the HD598.

I personally don't need the lower impedance, so if the HD660's isn't really much of an upgrade, I will just stick with my HD600/650 and save the money.
