Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I talked earlier today with the guy who sold me the HD650 and when he said they were like new, he really meant it! They smell like new and have less than 10 hours on them! And instead of the retail price of 470€, I paid 200€!
Loving the mellow sound!

Just found out my HD650s are the older version regarding the driver. They are absolutely like new, but must be quite old by now. The silver driver version has been around since 2007, right? S/N is 016993

EDIT: Been searching the forum. That S/N must be from around 2004, the earlier batches. Should've paid 89€ more and get a new pair, with silver screen drivers.

You said, you were loving the mellow sound. You could always buy a pair of new drivers if it bugs you enough.

And I do love the sound! I'm just thinking that I might haven't got the best deal paying 200€ for an HD650 that left production almost 10 years ago when amazon.fr sells them for 289€ with free shipping.

I got myself HD 650 from Sennheiser site today. I am wondering if my old fisher 500c will sound good with hd650. Anyone tried HD650 W/Fisher 500c?

Sorry but it will sound terrible. No synergy and just a bad match alltogether. In fact you may notice a loud odor or even see smoke or small flames coming from the hp's and even the receiver. (of course I jest)

With the being said, is the fisher for sale.

You are tempting me. How do you know my wallet is lite? Yeah, I spent more than I should on audio last two days. I was using it for destop with rocksolid speakers now I don't have space for my desktop set up, I haven't touch it for over a year now. Let me sleep on it for couple of days.

I purchased a sens cable from this ebayer and I believe he is a forum member.  He has been on ebay since 1999 I believe.  Great cable in my opinion.  http://www.ebay.com/usr/wjernst. Send him a message and ask if he has any built or will build you one custom.  Price was just as good as the other cables on ebay and he is a U.S. maker.  Good luck Don

Do you think I can still get some years of light use out of them without maintenance? I'm just concerned because they are so old (9 ou 10 years old), despite the fact that they are, basically, new old stock.

^^^
I don't see why not, I would think they would be the same as new. I am sure someone more qualified than me can answer that, but I wouldn't worry about it. I would just use and enjoy them.

I think you can get many years of heavy use out of them. It's not like the drivers have foam surrounds that can disintegrate with age. As Boss429 said, just enjoy them!

I have an ANCIENT HD580 I purchased when first released. It's my most-used headphone, and has taken challenges from a variety of audio sources over the years.

All I've had to replace are the surround cushions/foam pads, the headband foam and at one point, when it was an issue, the cable (the intermittent connection thing).

You can still get all the necessary pieces for repair from Sennheiser, including the drivers if needed -- I've never had to replace a driver, despite having driven them hard. And they still sound wonderful, and test fine using my Stereophile Test CD 3. :)
