Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Has the left driver been damaged?

sometimes the music has faulty parts in it, so cross check with another headphone. Probable cause could be a hair stuck on the phragma or the driver has loosened from its holding, but be careful when opening because of the very thin wire going to the driver.

Repost from the Deals Thread, enjoy....

  So...this will blow your mind.

Couponcode CYBT3PPS brings the price of the HD650 down $180 bucks at Sennheiser. http://en-us.sennheiser.com/high-quality-headphones-around-ear-audio-surround-hd-650 but coupon code paramore will get the price down even lower...at least it covers tax in my state! Depending on State, seems to be between 285 and 295 out the door.

I just snagged me a pair!

I was one of the lucky ones who got a confirmed order for the HD650 for $288 directly from Sennheiser. I am REALLY excited to get these! It is my X-mas present to myself. I'll have to run it through my FiiO EO7K for a little while until I can save up for a proper DAC/Amp combo.

Kudos.

You'll definitely notice a big difference in a high-level amplifier.  My long-since-sold HD 600s were the first set of "high end" headphones I ever owned and I did not have an adequate amplifier setup when I first got them.  I stepped up to a NuForce HDP and noticed an incredible difference in sound quality.

There are a million amps to consider, but I would highly recommend the Schiit Asgard in terms of "bang for the buck."  I also think that a solid state amp works very well with the house Sennheiser sound.  Just my opinion of course.

I think the HD650 sounds good with the Magni, Lyr, and Mjolnir.  It'll probably be nice with the Vali, too.  When I first got my HD650, I listened to it out of my receiver and I still enjoyed it (although it's probably just a cheap opamp circuit). It gets better with better amps, but you don't have to spend a lot to make it sound good.
