I have a Project Horizon II that I use with an Amperex Holland orange globe 6DJ8. It helped with the mid-range and the bass is enough for me. I also use it in a Project Ember (matched pair).

That's awesome thanks, I think the mids are very nice to these tubes push them more forward?

They can definitely be made to fit, there's actually some guy a while ago who sold a pair of HD650s with HE60 pads.  A lot of earpads actually fit the HD6XX series like the Brainwavz HM5 but you often have to sacrifice your existing earpads for the plastic snap-on ring.

Anyone know if HE60 pads fits HD650? Thinking about trying it.

The he60 pads are slightly larger than stock 650 pads. But more importantly there were quality control issues with those pads, where they "flaked" off each time you used them. Maybe you are referring some new production replacements.

I don't know. The only ones I could find are these: http://www.custom-cable.co.uk/sennheiser-he60-earpads-black.html

Is there a reason for using the HE60 pads?  The link has the price at $55, I think the HD-650 pads were $50 the last time I looked.

I haven't recieved my HD650's yet but I've read some people complaining about comfort so I thought these might help if that was the case for me also. Apart from that it looks better, and may change the sound to the better.

@Youth, I've never heard anyone saying the HD-650 was uncomfortable but then I haven't really looked around.  I'm interested in what type of possible change in sound they would give?  Please post if you do get the Hd60 pads about any sound and comfort changes.

This headphone never ceases to amaze me.  My journey since the beginning of this year just goes to show how the ears/brain can be conditioned and the enduring quality of the HD650's. Late last year I picked up some 650's as an impulse buy and quickly got re-hooked on them, preferring them over the various planars I had been trying to like over the previous few years.  Then in February I tried the HD700's and really liked them a lot.  They have a certain tonal balance that made the 650's seem dark and dull in comparison.  Then about a month ago I got the Audioquest Nighthawks which are very polarizing but for me were a breakthrough in a different approach to headphone sound.  After listening exclusively to the Nighthawks which many consider overly dark and polite, my ears had been reprogrammed from being used to the brighter HD700 sound.  Just for fun on Sunday, I pulled out the HD 650's and going from the Nighthawks to the 650's was a great experience.  The two phones share some similarities but are also different enough to be very complementary.

What do your Nighthawks bring that's different vs. the 650?

The sound of the Nighthawks is kind of hard to pin down because it's a quite different approach than other phones.  To simplify, I'd say the NH is very coherent in all respects with nothing sticking out more than the rest tonally or spatially. Where the 650's tend to bring the midrange forward, the NH is very even across the frequencies.  Also, the soundstage for the 650's seems wider, but with more of a left/right/center feeling where the NH is continuous left to right with less spotlighting of certain sounds, less pinpoint.  I'd say the NH has more extension at the frequency extremes but the bass is more impactful on the 650.  All that being said, that certain special magic of the 650's that we all know is still very appealing.
