Still not sure whether to buy these for dance, trance, pop, kpop music

You will probably enjoy a more "fun-sounding" headphone than 558 for those genres.  SR225, ATH-M50, Beyers, or Ultrasones are what you should consider instead, I think.
Or you might enjoy 558 more, who knows.  You'll just have to find out for yourself.

I personally find the hd558 to be more fun than the dt770.

I got the replacement pair from sennheiser. Im not sure wether it's burn in or just a difference in manufacturing but this pair sent from sennheiser has more treble and tighter bass. To me this is a good thing and im loving these right now! I'm pretty sure this difference is not just in my head as well.

Nonetheless i think these are the best headphones you can get new/refurb for $100, even the a900x. :)

Hello fellow 558'ers,

Are any of you using a good case or bag to store your 558's in when not in use that you'd suggest?

There's a Chinese one on fleabay and a soft bag on goodcans, but was wondering what any of you might be using.

I just use an oversized cloth pouch pencilbox with some pillow casings for padding.

I never cover my 558's... then again i never bring them out of the house. They only stay at my desktop area and i keep that area relatively clean.

.

I keep mine next to my chair hooked up to the Aune T1 permanently. When I'm ready to listen I hook up to my iPad, power up and I am ready to go. No need for a case.

I keep it hanging off the side of my table on a used duct tape headphone holder unless I take it out.

I am convinced this pair sounds different than the pair i bought a couple weeks ago. I don't think its burn in either. This pair sounds like the pair i had a couple months back (from a friend). There seems to be some manufacturing differences going on. The difference between the pair i had 2 weeks ago and this one is the difference i would expect going from the hd558 to h598 would be. I'll end my nonsense talk now. :D

It might be somewhat good that this doesn't get highlighted too much around here (correct me if I'm wrong), or we would additionally be having threads about people rolling the same headphones for that "golden sample" that pleases them most.  "Oh I just bought and returned/exchanged K701 25 times before getting a 'perfect one' to keep."  "So I have to buy and return headphones repeatedly for a good one?"
Yeah, you definitely will hear small differences between headphones of the exact same model due to manufacturing tolerances.  I've read of the HD800 users rolling HD800s for one with more even treble.  Oh, boy.

It's the earpads. The soften and used earpads will add more thickness to the lower half of the spectrum while the new earpads will be dryer and crisp. I switched the shop's demo HD598 earpads from its stock one to mine and the difference was quite noticeable.
